The closer you get to "the city" the less Halloween activities you see these days. Too many risk's.... We haven't seen a trick-or-treater on our street in the 15 years we've lived here. Our grandson is 12, going on. 21...He's sorta outgrown kids stuff in his eyes.

Long story short, he's looking forward to Harlan as much as I am.

    No guarantees.

I don't do jump scares. Tend to swing, or draw when it's on my hip.

There's something primal about splitting wood. So relaxing

Agreed. I have a jungle of a backyard and really really need a chainsaw but haven't convinced myself to go buy it when I have my axe...i just enjoy it.

For 30+ years, I'd cut, split, and burn 20 to 25 ricks (1/2 cord) a year. I used a hydraulic splitter but it was still a LOT of work.

    Age said heat with gas.

    You'll get over it....

I grew up on a farm. The house was heated primarily with wood. I was 18 before I knew my name wasn't Get wood. I'd deliberately break axe handles so I could get a break from busting firewood. Dad started keeping spare handles and could replace a broken one in minutes.

When I got the check from auctioning off my 4H steer when I was 14, I spent the money on a hydraulic splitter. Everyone my age was saving for a car. I was trying to find a way to avoid spending my life with an axe in my hands.

We heated mostly with wood where we live now until 3 years ago when I had cancer surgery and just couldn't do that any more. You could damn near fill the Grand Canyon with all the wood I've cut, split, stacked, and carried over the years.

Fuck splitting wood. I'll pay a gas bill or wear a freakin' coat all the time.

I just cut down a 40ft hackberry tree this spring and it seemed like it took forever to cut and split all that wood. Took me two solid days. Really don't want to do that again

Traction bar is welded on my new axle, just need to do some massaging on the exhaust to get everything to clear before this trip. The driveshaft, exhaust and traction bar all want to occupy the same space with the passenger drop 80 axle.
