Just 31's on it. (Currently being built, lots to come)
Can anyone tell me what the rear drain plug size is? The fill plug is a 24mm but my drain plug is bigger. Any idea the size of the drain so I can go get a socket for it

I thought they should be but they aren't. They are definitely different sizes.

might be time to invest in a decent digital caliper. You can get one for like $20. Get one that can switch from metric to red-neck.

I have heard of some people retapping for a larger bolt if they strip one... :anonymous: Maybe person before you tore it up off road, who knows unless they directly told you!! Agree, a good digital caliper is a great tool to have!!

It's no normal size that comes with your average wrench set, that's for sure. I did my rear diff oil when I was taking an auto class at my college and I had to use one of the special sockets from the Alignment rack box to take it off. It was some huge socket couldn't remember the size.

Can't find a pic of when I did the diff, but here's one of when I aligned it. I used a socket from the huge toolbox next to the rack.

You can't fit a pipe wrench there. There's a little lip around the plug.

Bummer my 2nd gen is designed more user friendly.

They sell single sockets at HF in random larger sizes for a couple bucks.

I laughed at that also - the one good thing about the imperial system of measurement is that our brains stay in shape from using all those fractions lol.

At least if you drive your truck there you can make sure you get the right one. Field trip to the big city. I used to live in a place like that. Harbor Freight also sells cheap digital calipers (I prefer my old school dial kind, but convneince...).

Except the trucks diff, carrier case and drive shaft is all taken out. I found the problem though. The little lip around the plug is just a little bent so I can't get a socket around it.

It sure is. Especially when I need to take the axles in to get the outer seals done since I don't got a press.

Just drain everything through one of the ends of the housing for now if you need to remove the axles for new bearings (what I think you were referring to needing a press for). You could just angle the housing to work for you depending if you're removing an axle or trying to drain the oil. Depending on the clearance in between the lip and the you can use a file I guess to get ride of the material causing the socket not to fit - that or file down the socket with a dremel / grinder and then clearance the lip with a dremel after.

I could try the file. I was just gunna grind it off but that may work. But no the outer seals in front of the bearings. So gotta take the bearing out to change them. And yeah. I've gotta replace all the seals on the rear axle.

What do you need a press for?
