Truck Height Question

I'm in the early stages of considering a Tacoma purchase (had an 01 double cab 4x4 that i just sold - definitely getting a new one, it's just a matter of when).

I'm planning on a 2-3" lift with a bit bigger tires - I haven't spent too much time considering which lift/size tires, etc.

However, this my question - can some people with a similar setup measure the height of their truck? I'm trying to ensure it will fit in my garage - I don't want to park it on the street. If it won't fit, I probaby won't do the left.

Truck specs are available online at Toyota's website. Then add approx. lift with lift kit and tires of your choice

 

right - but i want to make sure that's accurate... i don't want to calculated it to find out there's something else that is off a little (i doubt a 3" lift is exactly 3" for example) - and i think it's going to be close as to the clearance. i'd much rather have some real numbers to use as my gauge...

 

i would go off factory specs... if sum1 gives you #'s what psi are their tires at? are the tires new or wore out? did there lift sag? low psi and wore out tires could cause a 3in difference. also how much crap do they have in the cab? gas?toolbox? mud underneath that never got washed off?catch my drift? there are to many varibles with a used vehicles #'s

 

Take the stock height and add 4.5 inches and that should account for tires and lift plus give you a little room for error.

 

that's why i asked for a few people to post. i want actual numbers as well. many people here have pretty new vehicles that i'm not concerned too much about sag, etc. if you don't know, no need to respond to my post.

 

Typically lifts are at or below claimed height. I've never heard of them going over. Tires are usually about a half inch smaller than claimed height which would translate to a quarter inch less of truck height.

 

Really? Because my 1.5" Wheeler's AAL added 2 inches in the left rear and 2 1/8 inches in the right rear. Must just depend on how much the leafs were sagging before the install?

I think the OP's correct in his approach. Get someone to do an actual measurement if you think you're going to be close. But beware that different tire brands of the same size come with different tread depths too. So add some extra head room.

Apparently, as you point out yourself, there is too much fluctuation out there for us to bother measuring for him. I have the same AAL as you and I got 1.5" of lift over my TSB. Did you just install the AAL? Has it had a chance to sag?

OP, get the factory specs, add an estimated amount of lift to that number, and give yourself at least an inch of forgiveness. That's how high you can lift your truck. That's not trying to be rude. It's the truth. There is fluctuation on our trucks.

 

Well, I guess I see your point. But using a stock truck and adding measurements from the lift won't work either. Look at mine. Settling or not, if he's close and is adding exact numbers, then he's going to be very surprised when it's sitting inches higher than it's supposed to. To answer your other question, no TSB done just the AAL. And that must mean that my rear leafs were sagging even more due to age (they are supposed to be shaped like a frown right? j/k). I think you'd get a close enough idea using someone's with the same setup and adding a buffer in to account for small differences. But then the same can be said for using factory specs. Get them and add in the measurements and an extra inch for each piece you're adding just to be safe.

 

Op, my truck is 72" or 6'. I got 2.25" lift up front and 1" in the rear. I'm running 31.5" tall tires. Hope that helps.

 

A little over 75 " to the highest point of cab with 3" lift and 285 tires
