    2010 Tacoma, removed OEM wheels, replaced with aftermarket. Rust can be seen behind rear wheels, where OEM wheels bolted up. I don't know what this area is called, a drum brake cover maybe? Having rear suspension work done soon, figured id ask them to remove rust and spray it with something flat black?

    What do you guys think :confused:

    Yup-It's the rear brake drum- Clean it down and paint it however you'd like (colored or black or whatever)

    The drums will look way better with black paint... did mine that way and probably the easiest, most effective dress-up work I've ever done.

    Won't matter what you paint it, it will rust through the paint fast.

    make sure the parking brake is off, use the two screw method
    ( tightening each screw a couple turns to wiggle the drum off the pads , sorry i dont know the thread size ).

    [IMG]

    as you can see this is how mine looked on my 09.
    Once the drum is off, sand it , clean it, paint it.
    May-be a little primer and a good metal paint.
    They will look good and stop most of the rust.
    I have seen up north here where the drum and aliumun rims will rust together if left unchecked, and having the pound the rim off.

    Not if you clean and prep it right. If you spray over the rust you are screwed- but if you do the front work...you'll be fine. (Like I painted mine almost two years ago and they are dirty-but unrusted.

    Horrible idea...Mainly because the folks who have tried it have had little to no success with the "upgraded" brakes.

    Guys, picked up some black caliper/drum paint from pep boys for 8 bux. Since this is a "normal" issue, there has got to be lots of people with this rust. I have a 2010 and it bothered me. It may not bother you. In any event, here is what she looks like now;
