Mine definitely has it. 2017 OR 4x4 dclb Auto trans. It's not crazy loud, but definitely noticeable. Gonna keep an eye on it and go from there. About 3500 miles on the truck.

Call corporate and start a case and then don’t let them close it.

There will be a fix for this eventually... at least that’s what Toyota keeps telling me.

Wish my check that paid for truck bounced. So i could tell them, "Sorry Toyota, that's normal, I may eventually have a fix for it."

I took mine in for the diff noise around 6 months ago, and they ordered and installed some heat shield iirc. Supposedly that was (but wasn't) causing symptoms similar to the diff howl. I'll see if I can get a p/n off the service slip.

So I've had my differential replaced once which whines so much more it's absurd. I just took a 500 mile trip and it whines the whole entire time loud enough for my wife to even say wtf is wrong with your truck. I got home and checked the fluid and it wasn't even filled I can barely touch fluid jamming my whole pinky in the fill hole, not to mention the fill plug was torqued to 100 ft/lbs.... Idk wtf Toyota is up to. That is not normal to whine so loud it can be heard when my radio is above 45 and hurting my hearing. Idk if it's ring and pinion setup or pinion bearing preload bit the setup is messed up. My whine will happen at any speed and is most pronounced from 50 to 68 mph. It even whines at 20 mph.... Has ineone found a solution. I'm about to drop this truck or have 4.88 gears installed.

Sucks hearing many TW members are experiencing this shit from their new trucks. Nothing more to offer but damn, I'm with you. It would drive me crazy dealing with some of the issues on a brand new truck. Good luck man.

Toyota has this ego and arrogance of " it's a Toyota".... That reputation may been true 10 years ago. Ever since they moved production to Baja, things have gone horribly wrong...That " cheap" unskilled labor is costing them tons of warranty work and they know it. Which is why they deny, deny ,deny. It's a sick game. Morally and ethically wrong to the customers purchasing Tacomas.

In additional to my howl/whine. I noticed a " clunk" upon deceleration:mad::mad: turns out it's " yoke slip". Just by reading here on Tacoma World I find out it's due to lack of grease on the driveline spines on the driveshaft..:censored:

The common factor is they have NO idea how to properly assemble a drivetrain. They're missing attention to detail items like grease, proper gearset ups. Low fluid levels..

Toyota is okay with that....They figure these "mishaps" are worth it compared to paying American workers. Or they expect Tacoma owners to fix their own vehicles...

It's a great scam. Push a new truck without being fully tested or inspected for strict quality control. Then stick the customers with the bill, payments. Big FU to the consumers...

Take a look around at your local car dealerships, you'll see lots of 3rd gens for sale. Most dealerships now have CPO 3rd gens with less than 15k miles....

Off-topic here, but it seems like Japanese companies are very shady. Where I live one of the Nuclear Generating Stations or San Ofre Nuclear Power Station( SONGS) was closed down due to a crack in the steam tubes. Guess who supplied them with those tubes? Mitsubishi Heavy Industries. They lied about the metallurgy strength of those pipes, which caused a emergency shut down and decommissioning of that site.

The trend is alarming... The Japanese are on the decline. This reeks of desperation.

FWIW--my 16 4R built in Japan had both the front and rear diffs replaced at 20k. The rear was howling at 59-65 and the front was shredded. Was informed that many have failed.

Dude. Not one single fact in your entire diatribe. Everyone in entitled to their opinion of course but c'mon man... You don't like your truck. Toyota didn't make you buy it and I'm sure you will get a good price when you sell or trade it so move on.

Lastly, the absolute worst thing you can do is depend on a third party (except arbitration) for facts and using this forum as a credible source is even worse-er.

You have only three avenues available for reconciliation: The dealer, Toyota proper and the legal avenue of our court system. This is the same no matter what vehicle you buy.

Good luck and hope you get everything resolved.

Just as many 3rd gen owners with Texas-built trucks are having the diff problem. It is in no way related to where the truck was built

That's for manual transmissions only, doesn't do anything for the diff howl unfortunately.

There is a common tone of racism in your posts across several threads. Such an attitude must make it difficult for you to do your job impartially as a medical responder. You should consider the possibility that if an issue ever arises with one of your patients your comments here may undermine your case. Not to mention how disrespectful it is to any TW members who check a different census box than you. Own your sh*t, stop playing the victim, sell your truck if it pisses you off that much, leave. Simple.

Don't bother with telling me to go f*ck myself, already on the ignore list.

My diff was made in Thailand, assembled in Japan, and still failed. It was corrected and I enjoy driving the truck.

I must have really managed to upset him. But bringing up my previous line of employment and my bedside manners over a truck?? Very strange person.

I'll admit I have been frustrated lately. My apologies to anyone that was offended by my posts.
