About time.. I’m pretty good at knife sharpening.

I got it. All I needed was an aggressive enough stone to cut my initial bevel. THEN! Transition to a finer grit.

I had to cut some ridiculous cardboard. Lots of it. My SAK was instant butter knife. One of the office bosses, digs into his pocket and pulls out this minuscule whetstone. It’s the one the winery field workers use to hone pruning tools. With skepticism, I got honing. It was fast cutting and in quick order, my knife was damn sharp. I have a fine portable diamond plate. Quick swipes then leather....... yeowza. Surgical. I took my most stubborn knife to work the next day to try again. Borrowed the same stone. Same results.

I found a farm store and bought a few pocket stones. $1.99 each.


I don’t think I need it all the time, but it’s there when I need it. I bet it will be great on an axe.

I'm terrible at sharpening knives. I use a Lansky kit. My dad is good, he's rocking his 30+ year old Puma stone still.

 

I use stones also.
I have thought of getting ceramic rods for my bigger blades.

 

I did a large SOG tanto blade with a clamping rod setup. It can shave now.

I got one of these and I ordered the 3rd set of sharpening rods to get a finer edge. I sharpen my straight edge razor with this and all my knives. All of them you can shave with.

I can get by with a stone, but takes me forever. I always have a strop nearby. Either in my truck or backpack.
When I'm at home and have a choice, I use an Edge Pro Apex that my wife got me for Christmas last year.
It's so easy it's like cheating to get a mirror polished edge.

 

I have this as well. Mine is so old it came with a pouch, not that plastic box. You got the diamond rods?

I have a Sharpmaker as well. Makes quick work of sharpening and gets a razor edge on all my knives.

 

After using the Work Sharp you will wonder why you wasted time with other systems .

Except it isn’t compatible with all blade grinds.

 

What blade grind is that? Looks like a full height flat grind? Can’t figure that’s what it is though.

Beautiful knife. I have a BHK Woodcrafter in Scandi grind with green micarta scales. They’re excellent.

The WorkSharp has different angle guides for the different blade styles. Pop one guide off and pop the other guide on.

Those things are bloody expensive. I bought the knock off version then just bought the edge pro stones hahaha.

 

Negative.

Everything gets a convex blade with a work sharp, due to design. Changing the angle guide just changes the angle, it doesn’t prevent convexing an edge that isn’t meant or wanted to be so.

They’re great for convex knives, but that’s about it. Also if you’re not interested in learning how to sharpen and have money to burn!
