Dude your shift key is broken.

It wouldn't be to hard to make it removable as it sits, you could just use a little bar that puts pressure on the sides in the front to "clip" it in and then release/pull and disconnect things like audio/power/ect.

If it were removeable, I might agree. But your girlfriend isn't going to read a book on your iPad while you're driving. The angle is too awkward. Same with contacts, why would you even bother doing it in your car? 9.7 would be great, but the aspect ratio on the iPad is 4x3 whereas high resolution video assumes 16x9. So all that real estate is a waste. The picture will probably look better on the 7" screen. It's like comparing a large 40" tube television to a 30" widescreen. Other than the screen size, an iPhone will do everything, you can take it with you, you can use it as a phone and it's cheaper. The only thing this mod has going for it is the "oooohhhh-Aaaaaahhh" factor.

ok, first off, this is USELESS!!!!

he advertises being able to use Pandora and iTunes and stuff...

ok, #1... he/whoever paid to have this put in don't have many brain cells... both of these require the internet (in the latest iPad, we're talking wifi, that's it).. unless he found a 3rd party way to rig up a 3g phone into that system, this iPad will only be playing music that is locally stored on the iPad itself.

and #2, most ppl have their music library stored on their computer.. how does he plan on syncing his library to the iPad after this thing is installed? i didn't see a USB adapter anywhere that would allow him to even sync it to a laptop/netbook of any type.

#3, that will work great when you get into an app on the iPad, but i played with an iPad this weekend when it was released, and i wasn't able to figure out how to make the home screen landscape... good luck with driving down the road and having your head cocked to the side because you can't figure out what app you're trying to get into..

#4, looks cool, but i'd be willing to place a bet that says that taco has already been broken into and that iPad isn't there anymore.

#5, supposing #4 has already happened, they customized that so much that home boy is going to pretty much buy a new dash if he wants to install another radio of any type... either that or buy another iPad.

#6, this is a big iPod touch minus camera and less storage... they make ipod adapters... MUCH Cheaper than this iPad integration

I can go on and on.. but why?!

1)Upgrades and/or Mobile WiFI hot spot (I don't think that whole mobile Wifi thing is worth it- but if he's going to do this- Why not go ALL the way.)
    2) The same way every Mac syncs- Wirelessly with a home network. Just like if you had an iPad on the table in the living room
    3) So you had trouble using it the first time you ever touched one?? Imagine that.
4)+5)+6) Yeah...It's going to get attention- That's the point. ::shrug::
I wouldn't do it- but go for this dood doing what makes him happy.

as to your #3 reply, i'm an iphone owner, so when i was messing with the iPad, i didn't have a navigation issue, since it uses the same OS.. just saying it would be a pain in the butt to navigate while driving since i don't think there's a way to force everything (mainly the home screen) to be in landscape..

I agree with you though.. if this dude got all warm and fuzzy inside because of this mod, great.. whatever works for him.. i wouldn't waste my money on this though, personally

i messed with the iPad on Saturday, and it had 4 screens of apps. when scrolling through the screens you can have every page/screen in the "landscape" mode or the "portrait" mode. so having this iPad installed in the horizontal/landscape position won't matter at all, in fact if you watch that video in post #1 you can see the home screen in "landscape" mode.

    1. - They just wanted to be the first guys to mount a iPad in a car, so they had to use a Wifi only model until the 3G comes out. You can get a sprint device that connects to sprint's 3g network and provides a wifi hot spot while on the move...

    2. - They need to make this removable, so it can be synced and not stolen. You can't even access the power button at the top the way its mounted now.

This shop is near my house and they do good work, but this video was obviously for publicity and done on a employees truck. Good idea, and pretty clean install none the less.

hmm, you must have the magic touch ;) that makes this a bit more feasible then..

very true, takes away the 'cool' factor a bit, but it would do the trick temporarily i guess.

x2.. removability would make this mod 10x better!

I've seen a lot of people talking about how it's not removable. But I didn't see anything that permanently built it into the dash. It's got ONE wire/connection to remove.
Might not have a super pretty backing to it- but that takes like 10 mins to fix.

So unless I miss something- it's just as removable as an iPhone or a removeable faceplate head unit??

So I just looked up the Audison Bit One and the Onkyo ND-S1.

The ND-S1 is $180 and the Audison Bit One is $800 on eBay, making the cost of this mod $1480 with the Wi-Fi only version or $1610 with the 3G version.
