Offthewallsurfer Yes you are right. My truck gets crappy mpg. I’m cool with it. But when I come to this site to see what’s up.
Don’t want some cocksucker telling me I need lessons on how to drive it!!

I was pleased to see the other side of 20 mpg on the way home from up north yesterday, but the best I can do around town is about 17. That said, mine is a manual, and my commute to work is textbook stop-and-go. I managed to get the highest verifiable MPG on Fuelly (for same year/model, anyway) with my old '86 4Runner driving the same patterns.

Although I respect that GM figured out how to get pretty good mileage out of a 1/2-ton - using cylinder deactivation, which they've had a stormy relationship with - I just don't see the point. If mileage is more of a concern than capability, resale, reliability, etc, etc....maybe you don't actually need a truck.

Driving from ohio to ny back from the dealership I got 24.0mpg, and it's only gone up from that first tank of gas.
    Very acceptable considering it's a brick-shaped 4,200lb vehicle with 159hp.

Cute jeep... but I've got you beat there too ;)

    wrangler.jpg

And nice try but the third gen gets better gas mileage, I own both.

Exactly, your Silverado is a POS offroad... pulling out idiots in silverados is a favorite pastime of mine :)

Here's idiot #1 getting stuck in a dirt parking lot, that's him carrying his front bumper he ripped off in like 1ft of mud:rofl:
    SILV1.jpg

Here's idiot #2 that got stuck just trying to launch a jetski, my 2nd gen pulling him out:

    silv2.jpg

I repeat, just don't take your Silverado off road where it'll get humiliated ;)

I don't have the time to hold your hand through explaining approach angles, ground clearance, and their effect on highway miles.... but hopefully you'll put two and two together and figure it out on your own, I still have faith you can do it!

I have an Ultragauge, and have had it up since I bought the truck (under 20 miles). I'm over 8k miles, and the Ultragauge has me at a lifetime average of 21.7 miles.

I don't drive like grandma, I go ~5mph over the speed limit. I don't floor it at every green light though, and try to look far ahead so I don't have to brake often. My best tank so far was highway only, and like OP, right around 27mpg.

I have a camper top and a roof rack, stock tires. How some morons get 12mpg baffles me, then I see them talking about going 80mph everywhere like it's a cool thing to do. Those are the folks getting terrible gas mileage. I don't typically go over 70mph; I don't want to get tickets, and I like driving my truck. Why hurry? Life's too short to get caught in the rat race, slamming max throttle between stop lights. Take it slow and enjoy the commute.

Oh- like what the Toyota engineers did when the provide that whole 'EPA estimated city/hwy estimate'- you know taking all that into consideration and then some of us are left scratching our nads wondering why our real world mpg was almost half that..

I don't need the lesson. Maybe Mikey at Toyota needs it. Ah but I digress. I bask in the glory of driving 1,100 miles in sheer cabin comfort, then with a good set of E-rated all terrain tires I went wherever I needed to off road hunting birds.. And filled up the tank 3x the whole trip, lol.

Meh it's all good. If it weren't for the crappy mileage, the epileptic transmission, incredibly wavy hood and finest customer care in the world (sarcasm intended), I might still own that Taco.

    Yes- certainly wonderful 'off-road'.

I can tell from the shit tires on your XJ that you don't do any real wheeling, stop pretending :D

Damn! That mileage sucks! On a bad day I get 17 and most of the time I get 19-21.

Oh come on I can tell from your username and pic you lifted that shit and put heavy ass tires on it to get that kind of mileage.

So are you playing dumb or do you really need me to tell you why your mpg is shit??

Stop acting like you didn't put heavy ass 75lb 33" tires on it and are totally oblivious as to why you get horrible mileage.

And don't take it personal I'm sure you know how to drive very well you got some sweet looking rigs there. Spelling on the other hand :/
