07: 3in toytec lift, 17 in fuel wheels, Mickey thomspon baja mtz p3, k&n cold air intake, performance chip, magnaflow off road pro exhaust, and total chaos uca’s. 16: injen evolution intake and magnaflow exhaust...
I have a 2007 tacoma with a 3in pro comp lift. In lookin to keep the lift but upgraded to new coilovers in the front and some better shocks for the rear.. any suggestions? Ive been lookin at fox and toytec and icon but dont know which to choose??

too much preload (in my opinion) to get a full 3" out of the performance coilovers. Even though they say it'll go 3" it'll be awfully stiff. keep that in mind if you choose icon or fox. I have ext. travel icons at 2" drivers side and 1.5" passenger side to correct the lean. I get a little extra height out of 285/75/16s.

If you have a bumper up front then go with 700lb springs and you'll have less preload and a bit more lift.

What do you think would be best? I got around 1500$. Just confused on what would be best. I off-road often but not all the time. Give me opinions please!!?!?

Kings, 275/70/17, a few custom items, lots of Meso mods.
Get a hold of Marie at @HeadStrong Off-Road . She knows a lot about this will give you some options.

Kings if you want a softer ride on the road, Icon's valving makes them feel stiffer on-road but they start to shine when going fast off-road. Kings do both well, Fox are valved similarly. Not sure on Toytec but I don't think they are quite in the same league as King/Icon/Fox/ADS/ etc. Not to say they aren't good coilovers though for what most people use them for, and it's hard not to like their pricing.

You'd be hard pressed to find anyone on here in my experience that has anything bad to say about King, that's why I went with them when going through the same dilemma.

This is great advice man. Marie is awesome. I can really only speak to stock TRD Pro suspension and my icons both are great. Best of luck man.

If you wanna go full 3" lift get a custom setup from either @HeadStrong Off-Road or from @Downsouth Motorsports. I bought my Fox coilovers from Marie and after one off-road trip have already sent them to DSM to get revalved and to swap the springs out for longer, stiffer springs. You're gonna have a ton of preload with an off the shelf coilover from Fox or King.

Newb here... How does one avoid excessive preload and keep the same amount of lift?

Wouldn’t a heavier spring still result in a stiffer ride?

Yes, it will. but preload too much and you're in the same boat - with a higher chance of damaging the shock.

If a 13" 600lb spring has too much preload for 2 inches of lift you could swap it for a 14" 600 lb spring and have less preload. Don't always have to up the spring rate.

How does that 1” longer spring correlate to lift amount? I wouldn’t imagine it’s 1:1. This sh**s hard.

Spring length/spring rate/vehicle weight determine ride height. What the formula is......who knows.
