I'm starting to wonder if my dealerships, or the two I've been two just suck... Sounds like you guys are having better luck at getting them to do the replacement. The last one was pretty high volume service department.

I wonder if a smaller one near my place would be more effective. I only picked the last two as it was within commuting area of work.

My dealer is a family owned place--knows me by name--he has resisted being bought out by the big guys....Try a smaller dealer.

If you have a good rapport with your dealer, I am sure he will take care of you. I don't deal with big volume dealers...I probably paid $200 more on the deal.

Dude, don’t let a Toyota dealer or field rep try be your legal advisor. LOL. Like I said, they are not your friends and don’t have your best interest in mind. I know you know this but this is on corporate and the dealer is the middle man stuck between a rock and a hard place. The GM field rep tried that crap on me and the guy at the lot was trying to get him to change the subject because the idiot field rep didn’t know I was an attorney. His story was amusing. I thanked him for his time and nice story and had a new Yukon XL within a few weeks. Hang in there but if you are not getting anywhere with corporate then LL this thing and be done. My wife has another surgery coming up and after that I’m jumping on them and will let you all know how it goes (after it is done). Best of luck!

My 16 Tacoma 2-wheel drive OR with 9600 miles, has a subtle hum in the differential when going up a certain highway in our City with a not too steep incline, at around 50-55mph. I never hear it at any other time. I have checked the differential oil, looks clear and feels very light.

    Seriously?

I had my gears swapped out for 4.88. We wheel this thing and decided wtf.

This is the way it should have come....drives like a completely different truck.

Btw, as I told you there were no signs of damage. I had them look and walk me through it.

Prior to that I had two mechanics tell it could be something or it could be nothing. My Toyota dealer was more than willing to swap it out, but hearing as the new ones made noise, I didn’t think it was worth my time.

Do me a favor....don’t speak for me....your assertion that I claimed it doesn’t affect anything is either an overreaction on your part or a downright lie. I wasn’t worried about it because I had a warranty, I had a dealer that was willing to replace it, and I had two mechanics I trusted told me to keep an ear out for it but not sweat it.

You want to wring your hands and whine page after page...well I’ve done you the courtesy of keeping my mouth shut and my opinion to myself.

If I decide to let it play out and not waste my time worrying over it, then do me the courtesy and keep your trap shut as well.

Glad you found a solution that works for you! Going to check out 4.88 gears.

We had driven a truck that had the gear swap and were surprised at how much snappier it felt.

If you can find someone who’s already done the swap, ask them to take their truck for a spin first...

It was a stock 2016. 2" lift, larger tires (don't know what size).

    No tune.

We have a stock 2017 OR. Difference is noticeable.

What I meant was 4.88 with stock tires?

    Seems low to me. Automatic?

I know the manual comes with 4.30.

I figure if I regear 4.30 would be perfect with the super tall 6th gear in the auto. I plan on staying with stock size tires or maybe a little taller.

Well all of a sudden corporate called. Now my rear diff is not getting replaced and a field person is coming out and I can ride with them. I hope they will agree that the extremely loud whine that a can play with my foot is surely not normal. They seem to act like they are trying to beat me when I'm simply trying to have a working quiet truck. I was drawn to the 3rd gen over the second because I wanted a quiet highway ride (compared to the Wrangler I got rid of) since I travel alot. That was a point Toyota made when selling the 3rd gens how quiet they were. How can an overbearing whine be normal yet the truck is supposed to be quiet? I'm trying to get some solutions and hopefully it can help other people. There is definitely not a fix planned for these trucks because as much as I've spoken to them one would think they would have said that to shut me up.

I assume the tech guy will say it is normal since he reviewed the notes before and claimed it was normal without ever seeing the truck or doing anything with it. I'm not talking the faint him I can hear at all sounds this is loud and sometimes you can hit this sweet spot that is ridiculously loud. Like you can feel it through the whole trucks metal and steering wheel loud.

They also acted like they were doing me a favor by sending a guy out. Idk I feel like with a warranty they can't just say we aren't going to fix your bone stock truck that's been having lots of issues, but maybe I'm wrong. It literally makes me feel sick that people try to walk all over people when I'm just trying to work and keep my head down in life. I work very hard for what I do have. I may just give up on them and trade it taking a loss.

I guess I can. I feel that will require a lawyer and cost me more than I would lose just trading it.

Actually most states have a clause written into your loan or purchase agreement that it will be of no cost to you. Toyota will pay back any legal fees also.

You have good case. 3 attempts at this is way past that burden of proof. They officially acknowledge yours.

I still have to prove mine, as they refused any repairs.
