I am not against owning a lightly usen Gen 2, but every single one of them are going for $30k -$34k with 30k to 40k miles on them already.

And most out of warranty, or damn close to it.

Most credit unions only give new car interest rates for cars that are 0-3 years old. Past that, the rates go up.

It does not make financial sense to go that route...for me.

Does your Subaru have a Manual Trans and how does it operate with it?

Manual OR with P&T was not around the area so they ordered, told me 2 to 5 months wait.

My Volkswagen Golf has braked for no reason a few times. Ok, I won’t say for no reason, if you count a plastic bag blowing in the wind across the road as a valid reason.

Toyota has already done this with the 2017 Corolla SE 6mt version. It also comes with TSS-P. Check out page 19 of this brochure:

I’m pretty there wasn’t a person hiding behind it. And it was a hard fast stop, caught me completely off guard. Has happened to me a couple of times with it not being apparent what set it off. Has happened to my wife a couple times as well.

Overall I like the safety stuff, but that is one feature I hope we will be able to turn off in the new Taco.

If it brakes out of nowhere like in my current car, and potentially causes a crash, then yes I’d like to turn it off.

I would think so as well, but just pointing out my experience. I know what happened cause it happened to me. When it’s happened to my wife, there wasn’t even a plastic bag there. Brakes just engaged out of the Blue for seemingly no reason. Maybe a defect in my car. If it works, then great, I’m all for improving safety and saving lives. But it’s scary when you are just driving down the road, and the brakes engage unexpectedly.

Edit: to be clear, it’s not like it happens while driving down the freeway, it has been in neighborhoods, etc at slower speeds.

Hmm perhaps it's your driving style and not the vehicle?

No --none of the latest generation of Outbacks have manual trannys. I would think this would not be a big deal for the design engineers. Once again --I really do not think a large worldwide auto mfr. would risk putting a defective/new system in a car/truck. Call me gullible if you want, but I trust Toyota will get it right.

The system has been out for over a year on the Corolla and I've haven't hear any complaints of the vehicle automatically braking. I think your fears are unfounded.

It all depends on what type of a system "senses" the "hazard". I do not profess to know the type of system senses the danger on any other cars -- but I do know Subaru uses 2 "stereo-scopic" cameras mounted up near the rear view (inside) mirror. There is no "radar" involved. in the autobraking ,ACC (cruise) or the lane departure system.
Where Subaru uses "radar" (or something of that nature) is in the rear -with the "cross traffic warning"
The 16 (I think) and 17 Subarus also have a rear crash prevention system -- I am not sure what Subie uses on this system to detect obstacles.
We have a 15 Subaru OB with the Eyesight system (would buy it again for sure). Subaru has had some version of this -- I think since 2008 or so (I may be wrong on the exact year) and have been improving/tweaking it every year since.
That being said -- I do not know what the other brands use -- but as I have said before Toyota owns 16% of Subaru -- I would a bet a bunch that Toyota has been working with Subaru of late to use at least part of the design of a successful system. There are probably "better system designs -- but somewhere the "cost" factor has to enter the picture.

If I had good solid equity in my 2017 (bought in March), I would be VERY tempted to trade for a 2018 just to get the TSS. The only mods I could not remove or move to a new Taco are my tailgate letters.

Clearly, we all have slightly different wants, needs, and goals. I do not go wheeling and such so I would prefer a smooth drive, good MPG, and increased safety. Moving from a '17 to an '18 would in fact, IMHO as well as that of the NTSB and insurance companies in general, increase safety.

But knowing my equity position in the '17, trading in less than 1 year is not worth the $ loss for the safety gain & insurance discount. Besides, the wife needs a new Rav to replace her Kia. She just refuses to make the move before improving our current debt ratio. Plus I want her to wait for the new gen, possibly year 2. (As I remember there were a significantly higher instance of problems with the early production dates of the 2016 vs 2017) I understand, though I may be wrong, 2019 is the gen change for the Rav.

Let's see this car is coming from the same company that actually "engineered -in" a way to CHEAT the EPA emissions tests. As we all (should) know VW is paying dearly for this fiasco.
I would have that car of yours back at the dealer to "explain" this to the dealer on the grounds of a hazard!

    Not much stock left.
I have a Gen 3 Auto and have experienced none of the issues a lot of people complain about. I find the power to be reasonable, it doesn't hunt for gears or shit erratic. It's actually quite smooth and delivers enough power to pass, when needed. I have 265/75's and I don't tow anything or have carry a lot of weight, but then again it seems to me that if you want to tow, then get a 1/2 ton. Plus it wheels like a beast. I don't think you'll be disappointed.
