So how loud is it without sound deadening? I'm tempted to be be lazy. Or pick up that Home Depot roof flashing.

If you drive with your windows up and no music/radio then it'll drive you crazy. I drive with windows down/cracked and music, so I only really notice when I first start the truck.

Much easier to do year round in Florida than Mass! All summer I keep the windows down. All winter I keep them cracked.

It isn't that bad. I only notice it when the seats are down, windows are up, and I don't have any music playing. Even then, it isn't overly obnoxious.

When I was a kid my buddy, who was like 6'5", had a Honda Civic... he'd slide the seat all the way up, get most of his torso out the sun roof and drive it around like a clown car. I still laugh when I think about it...

So this makes me think. I'm not an AR guy, but: could one take a magazine, pull the spring out, drill some holes in it and screw it somewhere for a 'mount'. Hit the mag release to 'unmount' the rifle..?

Yes, they have stands and or vise blocks made to fit inside the magwell.

Get one of these vise block type deals you speak of, some sort of spacer (a 'trimmed' second block, or stack of something) so the rifle has the 'stand off' you need, run the bolts 'sideways' through the sandwich, and attach it to the panel/bulkhead, right about where it is in your picture(?)

I think I'd use the excess panel you cut out in the bed somehow for 'outside' bags of stuff...

Maybe a couple of hooks/brackets with some squishy foam that catch the stock and barrel... the dummy mag is just the 'latch'

Probably find one of those ATV gun racks cheap at a yard sale to hack into rests

I am going to see how one of these fit with the molle panel. I have one awaiting mounting, just received the panel and will hopefully get a chance to mock it up this weekend.
