I keep getting stuck on the part where if I was to install the 8 watt Anytone mentioned in the link below, that would reach out better than a regular CB but no one can answer me unless they had one also... at least I guess thats how it works.

Wattage won't get you anything in a wooded or mtn area. You'll still be limited by obstructions and line of sight will still prevail.

I say the 2m because most towers are high up on mtns. If you can get a clear look at a hillside from trees, you can hit a repeater, and chances are there might be an Elmer sitting on that channel who could phone in help. Or at worst wait til the commute times and you'll hit someone for sure.

With that being said, CB comes in handy with truckers and local ATV clubs as well. Personally I'll be rigged with both. $15 and under 400 questions they give you the answers to, why not take the test, right ?

We are lucky we live in a tech age. There's aps now on phones that break it up easy and help you study. They also split it up so a whole bunch of questions aren't from one area. So if there's something that gives you trouble, there might only be 1 question in that area.

There's 35 questions. You only need 26 to pass.

YouTube helps too. Shows the interesting stuff. Always easier to learn when there's interesting stuff .

Check out amature radio qrp. All about using low power radio's that can be set up in the middle of no where and still hit people.

Never thought about youtube being helpful... good suggestion, I just never was exposed to the world thus never developed the aptitude for it.

Went to take the Technician exam tonight. Aced the test and ended up taking the General and Amatuer Extra exams all for the same $15. Walked out with a General License.

I already had a Cobra 75 WX ST CB and now have BaoFeng BF-8FHP on order. Currently esearching options for an externally mounted antenna.

I used the HAMSTUDY website to prepare for the exams. It gives you the option to view the question, look at flashcards, or take practice exams for each level. Worked for me.

Thanks. Hell, if I can do it you can too. The HAM STUDY website was really easy to use. All of the questions on the actual exam are posted with explanations to help put it all together.

I didn't realize, when I took my tech test, that you could take the general and advanced tests on the same night....until I was there. Would have studied at least for the general..but alas I'm just a lowly tech for now

I tried to study up on the subject but none of it makes any sense to me... I think I'll have to stick to cb.
