Yup. I did the deep foundation design (micropiles) for the BMC Shapiro building which is across from the methadone clinic. Did about 1.5 years total between 2 phases of construction support there as well. Saw that shit literally every day. Pretty sad.

As a society, I think there are a few flaws in the system. We can educate the population and limit access to substances, but it's such a wide variety of people using for various reasons, it's a tough epidemic to control. It could be people using just because of where they live and their surroundings, some people use to 'get away' from a life trauma, some people just like the sensation.

Not a great comparison, but think about cigarettes. Today, I don't think there's anyone on this planet that can argue that cigarettes aren't bad for your health, the cost of cigarettes has skyrocketed and there's a significant amount of money put in to anti-smoking ads yet people still smoke. That's not a dig at anyone who smokes BTW, my point is, education and limiting access to substances only gets you so far, it's ultimately on the user to make either a good decision and step away or a bad one and head down the rabbit hole. Once they're hooked, it's incredibly difficult to get them back.

 

IMHO the only way to curb the issue is to stop it at the legal/prescription level. Growing up on Cape I have seen my fair share of peers succumb to heroin as time rolls on...and nearly all started with pills. Either stealing them from their parents or being prescribed pills from a surgery to help with pain management.

You cant completely stop prescribing oxy's and percs, but if you can only give a 10 day supply and severely monitor how often they are given out (talking bi-weekly followups with doctors for a new refill), you can head off a majority of the problems before they even begin. I remember going to parties and kids were stealing 20 pills at a time because their parents had that many hanging around the house. People are getting broken into and their medicine cabinets are being raided. Really hoping the legalization of weed becomes a more sought after pain management method than pills.

The people in a full blown addiction are a different problem all together compared to those who are just starting to get into the habit. One group has a better chance of recovery and heading a straight road. We need to look at how to curb the future addicts more so than those who are current users.

 

Agreed. There should be a way to kinda help control/stop it at the beginning stages.

 

They offered me oxys after my surgery yesterday and I said no thank you. That stuff is poison. So I'm on 1000mg of Tylenol which doesn't do shit but whatever.

 

Mine too. Quite a few dead as a direct consequence.

Never had a drink in my life, partially for that reason. The tiny sips I've had all just taste like rubbing alcohol to me. I take that as a sign.

 

Wasn't my intention to slam, I'm just frustrated by this truck. I didn't realize there was a difference in spacers, and I bought those spacers from you guys expecting them to work. My mistake I guess.

I'm running out of time to get my rig back on the road, and between various issues not related to the LT kit, as well as calling all over God's green earth to find spacers that are 1/2" longer, or longer tie rods, or something to help, I'm pulling out what little hair is left.

I did follow your advice and put as much positive caster into it, and lowered the ride height, but I still don't have enough adjustment in my steering.

Same. I grew up with my parents allowing me to try alcohol, not to excess, but to know what it was and what it did. As I got older, I was able to drink a bit more (especially at easter, cause Russian), but wasn't allowed to go out that night.

Going to school in Andover, where there's a lot of those preppy entitled shitheads, I saw the partiers who started with OTC drugs, then went to prescription pain killers/anti-depressants, then eventually graduated to hardcore drugs, mostly heroin.

The reason they go to heroin is it's much stronger and much cheaper than prescription pills. We have had 5 or 6 people from my graduating class overdose so far, and I graduated 5 years ago. 3 or 4 of them were in the same summer.
