I just realized I will have to get my oil changed when I get to texas. Any tips on where I should go...I don't mind doing my own oil but got no spot to do it at in the DFW area.

So another random question...but my truck inspection will expire at the end of November and I expect to be in Texas until December 15. I am going to try to get it inspected before I head out there this weekend, but was curious if should it expire and I don't get it inspected in time if I might be safe with an out of state inspection? I have good tags and registration, just simply my inspection will time out while Im out there.

I dont know for sure but I think you have to get it inspected in the state its registered but I could be wrong.

You'll need to do some research on VA registration laws. Some states require your vehicle to be inspected AND registered in the new/same state.

Texas allows vehicles to be inspected in other states even if the registration is for Texas (due mostly to our more-lax-than-other-states inspection requirements).

Damn even for a temp assignment? I wont be claiming residency in Texas in any capacity for the duration of my work there.

From the Virginia State Police website:

If I am attending college, in the military, or visiting relatives out of state when my safety inspection sticker expires, what can I do to get an extension?
There are no extensions. Under normal circumstances, all Virginia-registered vehicles are required to bear a current Virginia inspection sticker. If your vehicle’s inspection sticker is not current, and you drive back into Virginia, 46.2-1158.01, of the Code of Virginia, provides that you are not required to have your vehicle(s) reinspected until you return to your residence or place of business in Virginia.

Furthermore, motor vehicles owned and operated by persons on active duty with the United States Armed Forces, who are Virginia residents stationed outside of Virginia at the time the inspection expires, may operate such vehicle(s) on the highway of the Commonwealth while on leave, provided such vehicle(s) display a valid inspection sticker issued by another state.

Any documentation as to your current residency would be helpful should you get stopped by a law enforcement officer.

Sooooo i know you have one of these with my name on it!

I had 5 years of oil changes and tire rotation factored into my payments...

You have out of state plates... you should be good for a little while here. At least until you update your drivers licence...

I guess with that said, I get the impression that there are no extensions, but that once I enter VA I will need to get reinspected right?

Yup, that's what I'm gathering from it.

VA inspection requirements differ from TX, so they wouldn't correlate properly with your registration. Should be good if you don't have to renew license or registration while you're here

*edit* Yeah, what @Zac of all trades said

Just add the price to your expense report and make your company pay for it since you would have to do it early.

    Reading through the VA manual...

You guys are hella strict on that stuff... I guess law enforcement doesn't care so much?
