My 2015 TRD/OR came with BF Goodrich Rugged Trail TAs. The truck now has about 36K and the tires (IMO) should be replaced before winter.

The local Toyota dealership is running a (so called) special and I can get 4 replacement Rugged Trail TAs for about $750, installed. Based upon my experience, I know they're good for about 36K and will match my spare. I've not had any issues with them.

I have had my eyes on a set of Michelin Defender LTX MS for about $950. These have no raised lettering and don't match my spare, but seem the better tire.

I do NOT do much off-roading, except for the typical gravel roads into some of our State Parks and hiking trail heads. I'm primarily interested in quiet tires that provide low rolling resistance, so I can maximize my mpgs on the road.

    What say you ?

The defenders are great tires, MUCH better than the Oem ones. There’s a reason people call them rugged fails. The biggest improvement with the defenders is mileage, they’ll probably last twice as long as most anything else.

^^^^^^what he said, better mpg and if it won't see off road just get street tires, nothing wrong with that.

I got five (5) Toyo Open Country ATII's for like $850 installed. Just keep an eye out for deals at local shops/online retailers.

Costco has pretty good prices for Michelin. A good all season will last you a long time. Another set of Rugged Trails is money out the window.

I have no experience with Rugged trails but I agree with everyone else about the Michelin defenders, they're great tires. I've got them on my tacoma (5 lug 215/70R15) and in 20,000 miles they've only worn 2/32 of tread. Costco has pretty good prices for michelin and sometimes they have a coupon for tire installation too.

Michelin LTX's are great tires, I won't buy anything else. The price sucks but the only thing worse than paying top dollar for premium tires is regretting not spending a few more bucks for the next five years!

And no, I don't work for Michelin. I will save a buck when I can but not on tires.

I just had the michelin defenders installed at discount tire since Costco wouldn't install 265-70/17 as it was over 3% bigger than the stock 265-65/17 apparently Costco will only do a tire within 3‰

I have Michelin Defenders on every car I own. I'm on my third set on two different Toyota trucks and will stay with them as long as they are available. They're great in the rain, snow and on the highway.
They aren't even too bad off road if it's not too muddy.
I give them three thumbs up!!

Thanks, everyone. I think you've confirmed my preference. Michelins it is!

I'm sure that's a good choice but if you change your mind consider Cooper tires. I've been using them, no complaints. I just put a set of stock size 245's SRX on my truck for $625 installed out the door. That's more of an all-season highway tire which suits my needs. Also, they now have a $70 rebate thru the end of October.

One thing to keep in mind is you'll find tons of different opinions on a tire thread...similar to an oil thread... :crapstorm:

I think its sad you only expect 36k miles out of a tire.

I have Firestone Destination A/Ts. Have been on around 30k on them in less than 1.5 years. Tread is still great. Paid $900 for a set of five with lifetime balance and rotation, repair ect.

A good set of A/Ts should get you 60k provided the vast majority of your mikes are road.

Just bought the last four ATP's thanks to this sale! :bananadance: I will just have to buy a 5th one and finally buy a 5th matching wheel at a later date.

Correction. There are still three sets of four available if anyone is interested. I thought there were four tires but it was sets of four. After the $100 off and the $70 rebate it comes out to about $480. It's a pretty good deal IMO.

I just replaced a set of Cooper AT/3's. I'd had them 3 years and 57,000 miles. I wrote the check 3 years ago for $550 and got an $80 rebate bringing the cost to $470 I could have probably gotten at least 60K out of them, but over the last 10K miles the ride and noise had gotten worse. They aren't the best riding, nor quietest tire. But are a good value for the money and Cooper is running a $70 rebate through the end of the month.

I ran across a deal to good to pass up on a set of Pirelli ATR tires. I have a BIL who was able to get me a set of LT265/75/16's for $460. Cost me $40 for mounting and balance.

I am getting the Michelin Defender LTX MS installed for $713.00 at BJ's Wholesale Club at 10:00 today. They had a $100.00 dollar off offer that I couldn't pass up on.
