Thanks Tacomaman - appreciate the welcome and the info. My ride has 121,000 - bought it with 75,000. Limited experience on how it is supposed to ride but it's obvious the taco needs a little tlc as it isn't a smooth ride - ever. Not horrible but not quite right. So I have been making assumptions on what to do and the main assumption is that the entire suspension is shot as well.

I wondered about springs as well. I may go with a little lift and the 5 leafs. Based on mileage would you agree the suspension is shot given everything is still stock? It hasn't hauled too much - overloaded with firewood a dozen times or so. :)

Yeah, I'm just presenting the info that Wheeler's has posted on their site. The complete sum of my knowledge is on the first page of this thread. Dan at Wheeler's will be happy to answer any of your technical questions for you.

Regarding hardware, etc., the deal is only for the goods listed specifically under the leaf packs on Wheeler's site. Like I said elsewhere (somewhere in this thread), Dan may be able to work out a little something extra on a case-by-case basis depending on each person's needs (U-bolts, shackles, etc.).

We have 4 solid listed, MT Girl and several others are currently doing their homework to figure out what is right for them or gathering the funds before they commit.

Check out the other related discussion threads I posted on the first page, too. Lots of good info, feedback from others who have bough them, etc.

Yeah, I was new to the ride, too. Just bought mine last October at 101K miles, and just passed 105K miles. I had a 93 pickup before. Generally, the ride is squishier in this 01, and I wasn't sure what was going on. The standard shock bounce test before I bought it didn't indicate that they were worn. But after several months of driving, I am sure the shocks are toast.

I thought I might be able to get away with just shocks all around, but I have also noticed that at higher speeds, on rougher pavement, and in winds, the rear end is just squirrely and wants to hop out. And visually, the leafs have negative arch. Do yours? Several folks have posted pics of this. Negative arch in the leafs means they are done.

Keep in mind that I have a cap on, too. For comparison, so did my 93 Xtra cab, and it never felt this loose, even with 200k miles. And then there's the axle wrap...

I am not going to bother with coils. The leafs are notorious, but I haven't heard the same about the coils. I am going to stick the Billies in there and see if that makes me happy, and only add coils after if I am not happy. Also, you have a Prerunner, which carries less weight up front than 4wd, so they wouldn't be carrying as much load...but...perhaps they use a coil with a different rate on the Prerunners because of this. I am not sure. I'm not smart enough yet. Someone with a bigger brain will need to jump in.

So, anyway, after much agonizing, I have decided to go with the 5-pack and 5100s all around. The Xtra cab and the cap add weight, so I would expect the 1.5 to be more like 1 or .75. Tacomaman6 has a DC and a bed box, and he said he had about 1 inch of lift with the 5 packs.

yeah man.......with that mileage, i'd say its a pretty safe assumption. as a heads up as well...check your sway bar and steering rack bushings. my truck now has 66k miles on it....got it year before last with 46k on the clock....and from heavy offroading...everything was pretty much shot.

I've got about 113k on the clock and yeah the suspension is toast. Especially the passenger side, thanks to a run in with a rather large and unexpected rock... roached the shocks and springs on that side (front and rear), as well as screwing up the alignment. So I'm going full out.. already have the ToyTec coilovers with Billys all the way around.. but the AALs that I ordered with the kit aren't going to cut it for the rear anymore, so I'm getting new leaf packs. (5-leaf for me because I'm lifting.) Have to see how it looks once everything settles, I may have to lift the rear more.. dunno. :D

I'm planning on doing some maitenence to my truck soon. Timing belt and breaks but I've stumbld upon the axle wrap thread and realized I have that problem. Check out my rear springs and saw that the bend is just about neutral. I'll post pics tomorrow afternoon. I think I may be in on this buy. Just curious though, how long can I expect these to last with some occasional moderate offroad use on bumpy washed out dirt roads?

I'm new to the forum but count me in. I just broke one of the driver side leaves on my 2000 xtra cab 4wd and need a set. Only 73k miles but that's what a winter dodging pot holes in NW Indiana will do to a gently used truck.

Assuming you're not going to try 60mph runs down those roads? Should last a hell of a long time, another 100,000 I'd guess? Considering the stock leaf springs are usually toast at much less.. and for the price, I'd say go for it. But I'm biased, since I want this buy to go through.. :D

    Bwow chika bwow bwow!

    :bananadance::bananadance::bananadance:

We are 60% to getting 10% off!

Quattrokiwi (hmmm, Audi owner from NZ?), if you go pick them up, would you consider picking up mine, too, and I would come get them from you in Lake County?

Just a thought...it would proabably involve some sort of beer for you, at least...no pressure if this would be a PITA for you...

To all interested folks: FYI, I will be out of town and largely offline from April 16th to April 25th, so just a heads-up. If possible, I will manage the list handoff to Dan while I am on the road, but otherwise, when I get home on April 25, Sunday.

Yes audi owner from NZ, moved here 7 years ago. If I do pick them up, I'll get yours as well, but if shiping is less then $120 then I figure it wouldn't be worth my time and gas to do it, 345 miles each way.

Are you coming up for the nor cal camping trip at lake pilsbury?

If it wasn't for the fact that I would spend more driving there and back, I would pick 'em up. :D Anyway.. :headbang: for 6 people...

Hopefully we still hit 15 :) (one can dream can't he?) 10 would work as well.
