Crackils, looks good. I just want to be able to remove my Chrome plastic Toyota emblem from the grill without breaking those plastic tabs on back and spray paint matt black dip on the grill part. Any thoughts or ideas?

Open the hood and you can easily snap it out. I did exactly this. I tapped the tab clips to avoid getting paint on them and put about 5 or 6 coats on. Just use care

I did it on my last truck, both the grill (black) and logo (red). Both of them got chipped up and looked like shit in a few months with the original color shining through. On the Taco I did it right and stripped the chrome and painted then applied clear. Looks much better in the gloss not chipped look.

What about using the dip spray paint red on the emblem? Can you use most any dip spray paint from like Wal-Mart? I know it looks like a rubber looking coat. It can peel later.

The color does not change to toughness of the material. I have used black, red and grey over the years. I find its great for testing a look, but if its a look you want to keep, paint it proper.

I would paint grill the Matt black dip. But probably not paint the emblem red dip.

What is the best way to remove the chrome from the plastic Toyota grill emblem so that I can paint it red enamel and clear coat it?

Get a small tupper ware container just bigger then the emblem. Put it in there in pour bleach over the emblem. (I found it stayed suncken in the bleach better with the jell type). The bleach will start bubbling on the chrome in a few mins, and turn the liquid black. Pour out and replace the bleach a few times for the most results.
I did a very light sanding of a few spots that stayed chrome covered.

I have mine dipped black. I run a lot of highway and it has a new small chips where the chrome is showing through. I would imagine most ppl wouldn't need to touch it up. That or it was done poorly. I'm no expert on that stuff. But I will probably do it again in the spring. No point doing it with winter around the corner, the truck is getting blasted every day and I'm more worried about keeping the salt off of it.
