Removing sway bar 2016+

Not for daily driving with precious cargo (my kids). No thanks.

 

A lot of people are reporting insignificant difference.

I'll confirm in a couple weeks.

 

Not worth the risk for me with my “stock” TRD Pro suspension. Back in my non-kid days, I removed the sway bar and didn’t think twice.

Removing the sway bar and putting it back after a wheeling trip isn’t the issue for me. It’s removing the TRD skid plate and putting it back in that takes too much time for this to be with it. I’m going to continue to see if I can secure the bar in place after removing the links.

 

Good call; disconnecting both endlinks and not pulling my rookie move..

 

This kind of got me thinking and I may try to come up with an auto-disconnect for the sway bar... Would anyone else be interested if I came up with something?

 

My sway bar has been long forgotten. And I don’t die often.

 

Plus, with stiffer springs up front, I hear the body roll is even less noticeable.

 

No swaybar here for about 60k miles. No issues. Just remember lifted truck with oversized tires, roof rack, roof top
tent, armor and a bunch of other non-stock items is not a racecar and you're fine.

 

YES!!! Best of luck on this venture! If you need any feedback on what may or may not work, please ask. For example, simple having removable quick links won’t solve the problem as the bar itself will drop and chew into the CV joints. However, securing the bar somehow after the links are removed could be a good workaround.

 

I took my sway bar off, yes there's more body roll but its gonna take quite a bit to roll the truck, Your not going to roll the truck by just taking a quick corner, you'd pretty much have to yank the wheel at high speeds to do that, but at that point your going to have other issues like losing traction.

 

I like it! I'm going to try that first and post what I come up with.

one of my jeep friends secures his disconnected sway bar with a zip tie lmao.

 

I'd be concerned with allowing the wheels to travel too much you'd over extend and damage the shocks.

With rock crawling you might not have that harsh fast drop you'd get when going off jumps and what not but still not good to do.
I know the shop I got all my stuff from that's strictly an off road mod shop told me sure you can get away without limit straps but really for the $200 it cost to have its a good investment in protecting your shocks. So if removing the sway bar will get you more travel you may risk more damage to the shocks.

Just something to consider.

Regarding evasive lane change maneuvers, what is stability control like on these trucks, as good as on the 2016 hilux?
Do ISO 3888 standards apply?

 

Not possible unless you have spacers installed. The way the Tacoma IFS is designed, there is only so much travel available. If you were to remove the coil over up front, you would see this. There is no way to damage the shock based on achieving full travel up or down unless, like I said, you have spacers installed. Removing the sway bar just helps with achieving the full travel. Limiting straps would serve no purpose with the stock control arms.

That's an issue when you go long travel. So many shops think they know something when they really don't. Trust the guys that actually do this stuff. Limiting straps usually come with long travel kits.

 

Hell the shop I got my stuff from told me for the $300 it cost I should have them on my mid travel. With the total chaos UCA it lets my fox go all the way and he said he's seen guys damage them from not having straps.
