I mean, you can watch a bunch of big sweaty dudes play with balls at the mod day instead of the Cal game...pretty much the same thing.

 

I've never lived there, but I was born in the SF Children's hospital. Grew up 15 miles south in San Mateo. Both of my parents worked there and I spent a lot of time there during summer break. Probably 2 to 3 days/ week. Also skated there a lot in the 80's when EMB was the spot. Also China Banks until you got kicked out after 10 minutes.

If you don't want to say the full name, "The City" is what you call it. It's been that way since I was a kid, so it's definitely not a hipster thing.

I'm guessing that if you went to New York and started calling it "The Big Apple", you'd get the same response.

Call it whatever you want. I don't have to enforce the "Act like you've been there before" suggestion.

It's been called The City for ever as well as many other things. Just saying the Hipster thing is to only call it the The City and get pissed off when called anything else. By the way New York is also referred to as The City.

 

Any larger metro area is called The City.
