I took mine in for my last Toyota Care and they did both recalls on same day. After reading all these post I really thought I was going to be with out my truck for a while. I was REALLY shocked to get it back the same day and my truck did have leakage. It was at Gosh Toyota in Hemet.

    Update:
    Fuuuuuck.
Dropped it off Friday morning to have them take care of the differential. Called to check on it that afternoon and was told they had ordered an incorrect gasket, and that it would be here and done Tuesday (today). This gave me a bad feeling but I was hopeful.

So today I get home and give them a call.... wouldn’t you know it the part hasn’t shipped yet and they don’t have an ETA. Well shit.

I knew this was a possibility, but since they had sent me home last month and said we’ll call you when the parts are in I figured I would be OK. I’m pushing to get swapped into a more capable vehicle before a trip to the mountains this weekend.

Gonna email what’s his face CEO that others have and try to get this process sped up. Sucks because the Falken AT3W s I ordered will be here tomorrow and I’ll have no truck to put them on lol. :annoyed:

Just wanted to update. Took my dealership a total of 27 days. They put me in a GMC YUKON. I almost wish they had just kept my TACOMA. Now I Know what to get the wife for her next vehicle.

    So...
    I have gone from this:
to this after being at the dealer for a few days:

    and then got this:

I told the SA that this was not right, among other issues I didn't get addressed.
Had a phone call with the service GM this AM and he seemed to be understanding and said he would look into it.
    Will report back with update.

So apparently that only counts as leaking on a non-off road. Wow.
FWIW - their own words in the recall campaign states it pretty damn clearly. They're just hiding behind the fact your VIN isn't listed.

I'm gonna see how it goes going forward, but I straight up told the SA just to put it all in writing so I could forward it to corporate. I then got an unsolicited phone call from the gm so I'm hopeful that it gets fixed right. I also had some other issues that were completely disregarded, like the howling a arms. My truck was at the dealer for 3 days and got nothing more than the 10k service done. I'm very upset, but I will give them one shot to get it right. Then I'll go from there.
I was beyond belief when the report and SA said there was no evidence of a leak. One SA told me something probably was leaking on the diff. When I asked her what it was she had no idea. I then asked her if the tech looked to see what it could be, but why would he when he already stated there was no evidence of a leak lol. She said "I have nothing to say about that, let me get you an email address" when I showed her the pic.
Crazy. Sorry for the novel. Also not trying to sound whiny, just letting people know how I handled it and the results in case it can help someone else.

I just had my 10k service done and they addressed the recall torque down bolts and called it good. Is this the remedy? Or is there more to this recall.

My new case worker called Late Tuesday, then informed me she could not talk, she had to pick her child up from daycare. She did call me back yesterday, said she expedited my check for $750.00. I will tell all of you if and when I get the check! She also noted that I had inquired into extending my warranty, she then informed me, Toyota will extend my warranty by two years. I am waiting for the paper work, it is free, so I will take it! I am a little unclear whether it is bumper to bumper or just the power train? I will let you know.

A bit of irony, my drywall contractor was suppose to deliver some materials to my on going Victorian house project last Tuesday. He called me to apologize for not showing up, the rear end on his late model Silverodo locked up! Seems they have that problem also. On the other hand, only took the mechanic a couple of days to fix it! I joked with him, maybe the house is cursed, since both of us are having bad luck with our trucks!

I wouldn't be at all surprised if the 2018 's continue with the same problems. The recalls are probably cheaper than re engineering and retooling. No one in the supply chain is going to eat the cost of defective parts and toss them in the scrap heap . There could be a 100,000 more defective differentials sitting on the line that will be installed in the 2018's before the defects are completely run out of the existing supply chain.

Mike sweers is a moron on so many levels. You think with 2nd generation all the feedback they have got for the previous generation Tacomas they'd use some of that data to incorporate into the 3rd gen. Why reinvent wheel sorta thing? Instead it seems like they engineered a completely new truck with a inadequate engine and power train. The differential being the weakest link. They keep citing " lack of fuel economy" from customers. I've heard that from my dealerships shop foreman too. The real reason is they're cutting major corners. I don't understand why they dumped so much innovation into the interior and electronics and body in the third 3rd gen, but decided to use a engine from the Lexus and Sienna/ Camry V-6 engines.. How does that even make sense? The chasis already weighs like 4,000+ lbs. Almost the same size as the silverado 2500HD ( 2005 or 06) with a duramax.

I guess thats cheaper than upgrading the 1GRE or making a new powerplant. The icing on the cake is the shit differential.. They're so overwheelmed now they keep telling customers " its normal".

Hino motors makes the differentials. I found this very interesting:

Try finding a CPO 2nd gen at your dealership. They're disappearing.. You'll find 3rd gens with less than 10k miles being offered as a certified pre owned. Why is that?? I think we all know..

Yes, really. I don't understand why someone would drive a vehicle they don't like just because someday they may get more money out of it. For me, I need to like the vehicle first, then feel it is reliable. Resale comes in around third.
