I recall several other breeds that had bad raps. In time, hopefully, pits and good owners can reverse the current perception that so many people hold close. I do believe that some breeds are by nature more aggressive than others, or another way to say it there are some breeds that are naturally more passive than others.

My pup is a labahoula. He was kicked out of his daycare for being aggressive. The daycare staff had never before called him aggressive, as a matter of a fact they praised him as being a happy, extremely energetic, playful, yet strong willed and dominant good boy. They normally let him play with the medium group and large breed groups, and occasionally the small breeds to let him burn off more energy. A new "handler" was in charge of his group that day and he "Growled and blocked a new comer from joining the group while everyone was in the yard playing. Coincidentally his 4 buddies (a dobie, a boxer, golden lab & pit mix, and a shepherd mix) were also kicked out the same day for exactly the same behaviors. Odd that is what a dominant dog does, protects his group until he has "vetted" newcomers, an experienced dog handler would have known that and how to deal with the situation.

Thanks! Yes, I agree. A few bad owners put these guys on a bad rep list. This guy is the most gentle dog in the world! I have 3 kids and he plays with all of them They hug his neck, pull his tail, ride on his back and he just takes it. It's definitely the owners who make these dogs vicious. He's never bitten anyone much less even growl at anyone. On the other hand, he's super protective of my family and me. Come through the front door and you're ok, come through the window at 2am and you're a dead man.

They were given the nick name "Nanny Dog" for a reason! My best friend absolutely loves bully breads and will get no other type! His g/f will rescue any that "speak" to her.(so any kind)

That's exactly right! A hundred or so years ago, one of the reasons they were bred, was to be the 'babysitter' for the kids. Pitbulls love to please their human owners. Yes, they can be aggressive but so can any animal. My dog is very gentle towards people and other dogs. He gets a little aggressive towards other large male dogs but that's just natural for pretty much any animal I would think I'm no dog or animal expert but I would think that 2 males of any species when caged up together could be aggressive towards each other.

Insecure people have insecure dogs. Insecure dogs bite people. Some dogs possess the tools to do more damage than others. When you look at severe dog bites or deaths, one dog stands out. Not calling out anyone in here, but just saying why society being paranoid against the breed isn't going away anytime soon.

My dog is taking his CGC this week and one of the dogs in his class is a bully of some sort, very nice dog.

I know the stuggle of having a dog with less than perfect eye sight... Everyone always calling her four eyes. People just don't get it. Sometimes its hard to get outta bed in the mornings.

Good luck! I think every dog owner should put their dog through it. It makes life much easier when you got a well trained dog that you can trust out in public.

Simon just passed his temperament & CGC on the 8th. We're hoping to get him certified as a therapy dog.

(Obligatory pic from the same spot last year)

Whole family is leaving to go camping in the morning and haven’t told her yet so she’s moping thinking that I’m going solo. If I said the word she’d be a maniac all night with excitement.

    Meet Addie the Westie:

She is pretty much on her 3rd life. I have owned her for her full 5 years since a pup and she has survived a choking incident and a pretty bad pit bull attack. Me and her got messed up and both in Hosp. She is a good girl and everyday is open season on squirrels (never caught one yet but we sure try).

Nobody believes me when I tell them that, pound for pound, Westies are stone cold killers. It's all fun and games until a 14 pound dog kills a 15 pound gopher.

Seent it. My cousin had one.

    Angus was a bad-ass.
