Cheap spacers and blocks, 33's, poor man upgrades.
That interior is the same as the 800; for swa anyway. But some swa 800 still have the older seats which I prefer, new ones are gonna be a MX nightmare

We got buzzed by them constantly living on base at Lackland. They can seem only 1000 feet up when they're actually at 5000 feet. My brother was a flight engineer on them out of Travis for 8 years...I've heard stories.

BTW, the scientific numeration for the unit of measure called a "shitload" is precisely 28.

A C-5B Galaxy has a shitload of tires.

16 I believe I’m always awe struck when they come here makes my work load a PIA due to wake turbulence but fun. It’s funny you can see them easily 15mi out but a c-172 if it’s hazy disappears at one mile. Also we don’t have radar here makes it interesting.

Nice, I have a friend who is going to start flying the C-5 soon. He's coming off the KC-135

Like switching from a Cadillac to a 1982 15-pax van without power steering.

 is the -135 really a Cadillac though? I have a friend of a friend that said the C-5 was the best flying he ever did in the Air Force. Apparentally the lifestyle is great

Oh, she’s comfortable. Passengers and crew have it good. Flight engineers work their asses off, though. She also doesn’t turn on a dime - they are treated very tenderly whenever they enter or exit hostile areas. She’s a large target.

The 135 is a great bird, albeit old. That airframe is one of the most successful ever, and has been used for everything. I was at Fairchild in the 92nd ARW for 5 years, and got some miles inside them. Not a fun ride for pax, especially on long flights. Something about being flying gas cans. Morale was high among our crews, though. Ask a tanker about what NKAWTG means!

They are deceptively fast due to their size.

My dad was RIVET JOINT and COMBAT SENT for 7 years. I know exactly what you mean.

The birds are 10X better NOW than they were with the 8-bit systems and solid state crypto...and I've heard all the stories. 16 hours on bone-crushing vibration at certain stations, either too hot or too cold, and the occasional Russian "near miss."

Still, I like the stuff in the back. I can talk about it in another 44 years, too!

Yep. And they seem even bigger on the inside. Whenever we marshaled our Quick Reaction Package on the flight line, lining up the pallets, trucks, shelters, generators, and satellite suite, I was always "there's no way that's gonna fit."

It always fit. And then 66 of us.

I think I would enjoy flying the C-17. It, the KC-135, the C-5 and the KC-10 are at the top of my list. I want to fly something heavy that's not a C-130. At least that seems to me my flavor of the month. I can't ever make a decision so who knows

They can both flat out scoot at altitude.

FYI, the C-5's nickname is FRED. Fucking Ridiculous Economic Disaster.

The C-17's nickname (at least among the C-5 crowd) is Barney...Fred's little buddy.
