mine would whine when low on PS fluid and took a while for the air to purge out after refilling it

Here is the trick to figure out your whine is if it is coming from something with a bearing or bearing surface, this trick also works for locating other strange noises. Take either a really long screw driver or get a mechanics stethoscope. You will place the end of it on the bolt going through the pulley (if it doesn't rotate) or behind the pulley where it bolts to a bracket. Now noises travel really well through engine blocks and metal brackets so you may hear a faint whine so you must continue to do it until the you found the noise at it's loudest point. Now bearings and pulleys make a noise no matter what it is very faint, it's the abnormal we are looking for loud change in tone or pitch.

Yep, I've got the same supercharger whine- without a supercharger...

Thought it could be related to an exhaust leak. Nope, had that fixed.

I'll be taking it to my mechanic in the next week. I'll let you know what he says.

My mechanic said the supercharger whine noise is my bearings starting to go bad in the A/C compressor. Good thing it's cooler weather now.

I have a whine that makes 2 different sounds when correcting to the left for lane drift on the highway. It will go silent when correcting to the right.
