The KC-10 is just another airline aircraft. I mean, it honestly is an airlines cockpit with some added military equipment. Same for the KC-46 when it comes online to the Air Force (that's what I currently do).

The 135 is so simple. They have just recently started updating the avionics on it to be all digital. All the normal analog (and digital number) gauges are being swapped out for LARGE displays in the center. Its actually pretty cool what they fit into there. But the aircraft is so simple compared to many of the new ones... but you actually still have to fly it.

    Haha, I like that
I have seen the updates they're making to them. Makes me think they don't plan on getting rid of them anytime soon. The appeal of the KC-10 is the ability to go fly for FedEx

But FedEx is likely going to switch to the 767 soon, especially with the military pushing the slick floor setup. They don't make parts for the dc-10 anymore, which is the huge driving factor for the AF to start getting rid of them too

We've been pumping out the 767 freighters for FedEx the past couple years, I think it was 30 or so of them in the last 2 years with another 20 or so left to go. I think they also have options to buy a handful more beyond that.

I didn't know FedEx was getting rid of them. I knew the AF was planning on it though

They're too expensive to maintain because of the parts. The 46's are going to be taking their place at the bases they are at in 2021-2023. Obviously depending on Boeing actually getting their shit fixed...

(I'm on the 46 program for another 2 months...)

It's a cool airplane, compared to the -135 the boom operator has it way good, sitting upright at a console instead of on their belly in the back of the bus.

Nobody kicks ass without tanker gas!

Dad was a -10 driver for most of his AF life. Got to see some cool pics immediately after 9/11 and during OIF.
