I was referencing the "Price isn't that good" conversation from US commentators that really started after Canada defeated the USA in the 2014 Olympics.

Gotcha. To me, the Olympics isn't really anything I'm taking into consideration. USA got suffocated in that game. I don't think Price stole that game by any means, that was a team defeat (coaching included). Price was great in that tourney, not taking anything away from him. But I'm not sure he was really tested in that game, from what I recall?

My deal with him is he had a year, year and a half that he was out of his mind. But somehow he was crowned as head and shoulders above everybody before that ever even happened. And then after he had that year where he won everything (but the Cup), he's defaulted into that position still. I just don't see how he's so fantastic. he shouldn't have even been on the Vezina ballot last year, but he's Carey Price and it's Canada so it's all good, I guess.

Murray has basically a year and a half under him, so I find that argument a bit comical.

I think for that year and a half Price was likely the best goalie we've seen in the modern era. It's hard to forget that. If he keeps falling off though I totally get your frustration since his air time takes away from the Pens new gem.

Not sure how Murray relates to this conversation at all, but OK.

It's more that if you want to take the "crown" from Price, who do we put it on? Murray? He's not there yet, and yes two cups is great and possibly HOF worthy, but he hasnt played long enough to become Canada's new golden child. Give it a few years. Canada will find a new favorite in net after Price and he's likely your guy.

I think he got it before he earned it. That's all I'm saying. And then he had his window where he was incredible, no one can deny that. Since then, he's been good but I feel like the media acts like he walks on water, when I feel like other guys have out-performed him. Holtby, BOB etc. Last year Dubnyk and Talbot were more deserving of ballot spot (but BOB should've won and did). I wouldn't say MM is the best in the league. I think what he has done so far is amazing, but I wouldn't say he's 'the guy' just yet. I just think the whole 'best goalie in the world' moniker for the past 6 years or so is very annoying. There is no clear-cut best goalie in the world. It's usually back and forth between a few guys.

People might say the same thing about Sid and yes, there were years that he wasn't the 'best in the world'. But it really is hard to argue what he has done. I think there are certain guys, Sid being 1 of them, where it is pretty clear. Goalies in general is tougher, do to the nature of the position. And to me, Price hasn't been clearly the best to deserve that title year in and year out. My opinion.

So to summarize, Price was "crowned" before he earned it, then earned it beyond question, and is now falling off and you're annoyed that his popularity earned him a nomination for an award a couple of years later?

To summarize, I don't think there is a goalie that has consistently been 'best goalie in the world'. So calling him (or anyone) that, as if it is definitive, is very annoying and not accurate.

But yet Sid deserves that? Even this year when hes scored two good but very lucky goals but is struggling in some possession metrics?

I don't buy into that. My opinion of course. If Price should be knocked down so should Sid who is likely coming out of his prime now.

I already explained Sid. If you don't agree, that is fine. I really feel like his play speaks for itself.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge Sid fan, but to be mad a guy dominated the league for a couple of years and gets a lot of love for it seems equally silly to me.

How about we get into a rousing Matthews versus McDavid discussion? McDavid can't deal with double coverage and the Oil look like a ship full of holes. Matthews finds room, makes plays, and the Leafs have a glaring need on defense but their team strategy covers the need well. AND GO OIL FAITHFUL.

I wouldn't say I'm mad. I hope I'm not coming off as a hater. I like Price. I'd take him on my team all day long. I just think there are a lot of guys that probably didn't get the credit that they deserve (Quick, Holtby, BOB etc) for some doing amazing things, but Price seems to get placed on an untouchable level, even when he is ordinary. And in general, I just don't see 1 goalie that stands out enough to be given a title as such.

I know with Sid it seems like I'm playing both sides of the fence. But the guy just came off of back-to-back Cups, Conne-smythes etc. I honestly was sick of hearing his 'best player in the world' too. But right now, I think his overall play might be the best I've ever seen from him. He might not be as explosive offensively as he was before though, which I get.

I said at the end of last year and early this year, that Auston has a more rounded game than McDavid, in my opinion. Matthews is so good at doing small things to find room (last night's goal is a great example). He just seems to think the game effortlessly. Connor is by far the most dynamic when he is on his game, and I think he will be fine this year. But Auston is a guy that I think real hockey players / enthusiasts (who really know the game) can look at and are blown away by what he does. That might not seem as impressive to casual fans (as McDavid would be) but for me those 2 kids are unreal and very equal.

How good has Mason been in the 3 games he's started? He let in 5 the other day and his GAA went down. (Seriously)
I have no clue why Mason was ever considered the starter here. Hellebuyck is and was always better and has a higher ceiling. I consider Mason to be more of a replacement for Hutchinson who was horrendous last year, at a steep price.
