2017/18 Tacoma vs 2018 Chevy ZR2

The Diesel engine is awesome, but the gas engine options is gutless. Far from, out of the park. But ya, I wish the Taco offered a diesel option.

 

I always wonder why people want a diesel. I don't care to deal with DEF, regen issues, upfront cost, extra $ maintenance, smell, heft, etc. I give you range, but really, is that an issue? Living overseas, this changes as emission standards are different. In the US--No thanks.

100% agreed, I would've bought one had they had that available. If I keep this thing for long enough I'll do a Hilux 1KD-FTV swap.

 

The base price of a Raptor is a little over 51k. Good luck finding a stripped model like that on a dealer lot though, most are loaded with options. You can put in a custom order, however most dealers are charging over MSRP anyway due to demand.

 

I don't think any one has mentioned resale value how many 2005 Colorado's do you see for what people get for a 2005 Tacoma? If you pay same amount for both in 5 years I guarantee that the Tacoma will be worth more.

 

‘Toyoga’.......I like that.......the kind of yoga where you bend right over and sign the cheque for full MSRP on a new tacoma.

 

Their full-size trucks are good to go. I’ve had a 1989, 2006,2007, and 2015. All were reliable, and waaaay more comfortable than and f150 I ever had. The 2007 and 2015 were more comfortable than my Taco too.

I'm a mechanic at a used car lot, we sell a lot of trucks. If you think that you're getting the same quality of truck in a Colorado that you're getting in a Tacoma, then you're so stupid you deserve to be driving a Colorado. Just look at the resale values of anything in the Tacoma category. Our trucks almost APPRECIATE in value. Everything else plummets, because they're all junk.
Half ton trucks and higher? Yes. The big 3 have higher standards.

Here it is in an example:
My car lot barely sells any Tacomas, Tundras or 4runners. You know why?
The trucks at 5 years old are still worth so much that the payments on a 5 year loan are higher than the lease payments on a brand new truck.
One more example:
The dealership owner and one of the two mechanics (me) drive new Tacomas. We can get whatever we want for wholesale cost, but we both bought new Tacos. The other guy drives a beater that he got for free.

That is exactly why I have a new Taco versus a ten year old one.
