How much does 105 octane gas cost because where I live e85 is $2/gal and 91 octane is $3/gal. That's a 50% increase in cost which turns the tide in favor of 85 in terms of miles per gallon alone, before you even consider the performance gains due to the increased octane.

    What is "pre detonation"?

They will carbon foul if you don't run your engine hot frequently. The reason all cars don't use cold plugs is because you want them to regularly operate at a temperature which burns off the carbon build up. The reason to use cold plugs at all is to eliminate the heated up spark plug as a heat source for detonation. It's a balancing act. I wouldn't change them.

I personally would never run 100% e85 in my truck with the stock fuel components for long periods of time, but I also have never seen or heard of anyone having to replace parts BECAUSE they used e85. Worst case scenario your (gas only rated) fuel pump’s life is shortened a year or two. That isn’t a big deal to many. A $200 fuel pump every 5-10 years is better than a $2000 engine replacement.

Pre detonation is pinging or knocking. Basically if there's a lot of heat your full ignites prematurely

I recently pulled my injectors and fuel rail and they had zero traces of dissolved rubber. Only been running e58 for a year now which in the grand scheme isn't a huge amount of time but if these alleged issues had ground they would have already been showing themselves. I will agree that the pump may not be happy.

Sorry I was being facetious, I know what pre-ignition and detonation are, pre-detonation is not a real thing.

Edit: Don't mind me I legit have nothing better to do at the moment.

The thing that people don’t get is that gasoline is corrosive too. The problem WAS when you leave e85 in your tank for long periods of time and the tank is not air tight, the ethanol’s hygroscopic properties allowed the fuel system to be exposed to more water. Modern vehicles are designed to replace the air in the fuel tank with pressurized gasoline vapors so that there is no oxygen to make a fire hazard. Modern e85 however has a nice concoction of corrosion inhibitors that keep that aspect of it down to a minimum. The only modern problem with e85 is its lack of lubricity, which I personally address by adding 6 ounces of Lucas fuel stabilizer (lubricant) to every tank.
EDIT: oh and “pre detonation” is detonation before (pre) the spark plug goes off. Kind of a silly word either way since gasoline vapor deflagrates, not detonates

A gallon lasts me months and I add it regardless if I fill up with straight gas or an e85 mix. It’s good stuff.

That E10 and E15 is your problem. 91 or 93 and E85. Stay away from the other two.

All pump gasoline in the US is e10 regardless of octane rating (87, 89, 91 and 93), or am I missing something?

Oh wow... never seen that many choices in the US. Around here ALL gasoline has at least 10% ethanol unless you buy pure gas from certain hobby or racing suppliers

Bw s256 turbo with 3 in glass pack dumped pre axle raptor liner bed and top rails and fenderflares and rocker panels. Hunter side steps. Plasti-dipped upper fenders and emblems. satin black spray paint here and there inside and out. 5100's set to 1.75" up front . C channel front bumper. Maxxis bighorn 255/85/16
Like others have said everything here is e10. I know of a handful of places that sell regular 100%gas (87) and its as much as premium so even if they did carry 93 100% they would be charging nearpy double what i can get e85 for. And like i said i was mainly doing this to see if the ethanol content was causing a blow out and crazy afr. It seems as if it was.

So my new gap should be .028 ish for e85?
