The Beer Nerd - what are you drinking / brewing thread

So you guys were definitely right. I figured I'd swing by treehouse on the way home and maybe try and grab a 12 pack variety or something. They open at 2 and I got there at about 245. There was about 250 cars in the parking lot with and estimated 2.5 hour wait. I was willing to wait a half hour or so but I was Totally unprepared for that. Going to have to take a half day from work and try again

 

They line up before 2 just fyi. You'd probably have to get there around 12-1 I'd imagine.

 

Oh I'm realizing that now. One guy I asked said he got there at about 1245

 

Sounds about right. Their stuff is definitely good, don't get me wrong. But I'd never wait that long in line for beer. If you're close by and have the time then go for it. I think Trillium is better than TH though.

 

Hey @Cativelense you're in NY right? Look up the breweries Kings County and Interboro. Both have fucking awesome beers. I don't know how close they are to you but are worth checking out.

 

I'm practically in NY... I live in CT, but right on the border of NY state.

I'll check them out and see where they are. I'm going up to Rochester NY next weekend, for my nephew's b-day party, so I'll be checking some stuff out up there hopefully.

 

Those two are worth checking out. My trade partner when he lived in NY would always send me beers from those two. Really good stuff. Also I think Finback is in NY as well. Check them out if so

I'm only about an hour to an hour and a half from there, depending on traffic.

Nice. Definitely make a trip out there and grab yourself some cans. They do really good IPAs. Finback does a good stout called BQE, but it may be a once a year thing. I have a 2015 one and also had a BQE aged in Apple Brandy barrels. A stout sounds great tonight, may need to go pick up some Founders stuff since I'm still sick and can't fully taste.

 

Play hookie from work one day, drive down, and hit them all up and grab some stuff. That sounds like a good plan to me right there.

Never heard of Trillium either. Just going to get to treehouse next week like 45 mins early or so sometime next weeek and see how it goes

Hahah ya I got a purchase order from about 3 other people at the moment. Don't know how I'll justify spending $100 on a beer I've never had but fuck it

 

Can you drink beer while in line. Here we would bring some lawn chairs and a cooler and just grab some rays for an hour and half

 

Evening all. Starting off my weekend with some good ol American Malt Liquor. That’s barrel aged. And with a ABV of 14.2, I’m sipping it.

 

That would be drinking in public, which, no, you cannot do there while waiting in line, nor can you do while waiting in line for breweries in California. Or most others

 

Woah. How is is?

First sip harsh then

 

First impression is that there isn’t a whole lot going on. Not hoppy or bitter and not sour. Kinda middle of the road in both aspects.

 

Surprisingly not harsh. You ever had bourbon that’s been charcoal mellowed? That’s what this reminds me of. Not as much booziness as I was expecting. Better as it warms. All kinds of flavors going on. If you like new experiences, it’s worth trying at least once. I’ll be buying it again.
