I hope so too, im hoping the cool 15 billion price tags scares away the investors. and IIRC im on 3/4 or 1 acre, corner lot

maybe, but probably not enough to cover a new place thats the same size

Eminent Domain is the term used you don't want to ever here in a situation like this.

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eminent_domain_in_the_United_States

Likely there will be a series of public meetings long before you are contacted regarding the sale. Pay close attention for those and make sure you and all your neighbors attend.

Ultimately, if they take your property the Right-Of-Way will be at least 80' wide so it will affect others as well. Rail rights of ways are narrower than roadways simply because they don't need to design in room for expansion of the amount of rail traffic. There will be a lot of safety buffer though since this will be a higher speed train.

They are only obligated to compensate you for "fair market value" but you can try to hold out.

You don't want to be the last one and force them to shift the alignment so that the train just skirts you.

Let me see if I can get any info from work on the actual alignment. If I can I'll PM you to see if we can nail down any possible impacts.

I work for a major engineering firm in Baltimore but I'm not hearing anything about this project so we might not be involved. We are large so it could just be I'm not hanging around the right water cooler.

You could stand to make out though if your property is older and was originally worth less than the surrounding area properties are valued at now. Mostly though it's just a quick and easy way to move into something newer. Mostly the outcome in these cases is positive. There are always exceptions.

Oh, and whatever price they publish, to the public, will already include the acquisition of private property and public right of way from the state.

Meaning, if they say for instance, "this is a 1.5 billion project" then part of that is for land acquisition and someone somewhere has crunched that number already.

I'm right with you. I've been going to the meetings on this thing. they just knocked down the possible routes from 15 to 3. The most likely route would have it going through a tunnel right under my house.

Yup. Supposedly Japan is offering about 5 billion, but that still leaves another 10 that Someone has to cough up.

Thanks. It would be nice to get a better inkling than "It's one of these three" and I'll look into attending one of the meetings, i think one falls on a Sunday that I can make.

Yeah. It kinda sucks too as they aren't making a final decision until 2019, and there's a lot that could happen with housing prices between then and now.

I know it's not a good day for most people, but myself and a couple others are going to go wheeling at sleepy creek, wv on Monday. Anyone is welcome, but it's not stock truck friendly.

Wouldn’t do it in the Tacoma, because salt and sand, but this was fun the the 4runner in Delaware today.

Without quoting some posts, I don't think there are any clear cut knife laws as far as the state of MD is concerned. Some Incorporated municipalities within the state regulate knives. I carry a knife everyday. It's not a weapon, it's a tool. Probably the last thing I would grab to defend myself.

And for the longest time I thought getting a CCW in MD was completely impossible. A few folks I know have got theirs after a lot of pushing. It seems like persistence is key along with your "good and substantial" reasoning.
