Does it give you Transmission temp?

 

Yes. If the Taco has a sensor the Torque app can read & display it. For instance you can read your exhaust temps, actual engine torque, air/fuel ratio, calculate cost per mile... You'll be shocked at what it can display. It'll even put together GPS and other measurements from your phone to get more accurate data. The types of stuff it can calculate is bonkers.

 

There have been reported failures on the 2013-2015 models too. There was a change to run the air pump at start & shut down vs the 2012s. If that solves the problem yet remains to be seen, and with the reported failures may help alleviate failure, but not eliminate it.

 

These would be considered one offs, and not as wide spread as the 2012. SO much so that I have yet to even see a member with a 2013+ year have the failure.

 

Perhaps the 2012 Warranty booklet was not yet updated as it only mentioned the 4cyl since 2012 is the first year for the V6. Go by what I posted and print it if you have to and show the dealer.

 

Hmmm, I believe there are a few reports of 2013+ years having failures here on the TW. How many "one offs" does it take before it's considered an issue? (Rhetorical question)

 

I have a 2013 and it had the problem. It is fixed now with the bypass kit.

 

Good to hear the Slyfox75 SAIP bypass worked on a Tacoma. I've installed it on four 4.7's. Here's the thread that alerted me to the issue email him, it's sure worth a try for $50. Professionally made kit with a good reputation for success.

 

OK so this slyfox75 kit sounds really interesting. Apparently it deactivates the whole system by faking a temperature sensor reading if I understand some of the posts about it. This means no pump checks ever happen. What this also means is if you install it before a valve sticks open you don't even need to put in blocking plates. The valves are normally closed and with the slyfox75 bypass installed they will never be commanded to open again.

So it sounds like if you've got a working system now you could use this kit which apparently takes only about 10 mins to install and never worry about this stupid problem happening to your truck.

I've got a 2015 in a desert so this isn't likely going to be a problem for me but damn if it really is that easy to keep from ever happening color me interested!

I'm not exactly sure what it does, but you are correct about the closed valves. Mine were stuck closed no blocking plate needed, installed Slyfox's kit and completely fixed the problem. Truck runs great, no more check engine lights. It took me about 30 minutes to install .

 

What do you need to do for the install, is there anyway of screwing anything up? I have a 2012, that is still ok. I also would like to avoid future problems. Did you take any pictures? Thanks

 

The directions are pretty good with the kit. The installation was easy, but if you run into a problems Slyfox75 will answer any install questions that you may have.

hdpower; When you did the Slyfox75 kit, where on the MAF sensor wiring did you do the cut and what color is that wire? I would think the color is the same for my 2012 and your 2013 model. Sorry for all the question, I am not that mechanically inclined, I will get help for this install. I just like to know the details. Thank you for your help.

Take a look at your MAF sensor, it should have Toyota /Hitachi on it. I believe the wire that I spliced was red in color (wire # 4). Don't splice close to the connector, go down about a foot and get it from there. Also take a look in the fuse relay box under the hood and see if you have the purple relay for the starter.

Is your Taco a 4 or 6 cylinder? I wouldn't think it would matter just curious. I think this kit is a good preventive measure to install even if you don't have any problems .

I believe I was one of the first ones to try it out on the Tacoma 4 cylinders, no complaints here. Works great !

 

I have been in contact by email with him, he stated someone with a 4 cylinder used his system. He stated to me he was not sure if it would work on a v6 but he could not see why it would not as long as the MAF sensor was a Toyota/Hitachi . I need to take my engine cover off to see my MAF sensor and how it runs on my v6, not sure what I will do. This is a cheap option. Like I said my truck is still ok with approx. 32,000 miles. Dorman 911-643 from Rock Auto from a tundra, only using the top part of the switching valve. It is more expensive but no cutting of a wire! Email him, he will respond quickly!

 

He's out of town, but still in communication. He sent an invoice and I paid it. I'll be the guinea pig, if need be.
