    Thanks! Good to know.

I haven't had any diesels since the late 80's early 90's, and that was all in earth moving equipment, and a Mack Tri-Axle. The new emissions equipment makes me nervous over the long haul....by the sounds of things it can't even make for the short haul.

Getting 20 mpg give or take in the Tacoma ain't so bad in the grand scheme of things.

The best way to determine engine efficiency is to fill up and head straight to the highway. Keep that speed to 60-70 mph as steady as possible. You should get 21-23mpg. When you start mixing in City miles, it throws everything off as there are just too many variables.

10-4 phsycle, I'm doing a 30 mile run today. All on interstate with only two stop lights. I'll report on the results later. One thing I did notice yesterday, on my "apps" screen it shows 16.7-16.8 mpg however, when I turn off the engine the small screen in the middle of the gauge panel shows 19.2....

Guessing one is a trip or tank MPG and the other is a lifetime MPG. You can change the display setting under “Settings” to set it to the specific MPG you want.

The mpg that is shown when you shut engine off. That is mpg between ignition on to ignition off. Keep in mind idle time anywhere when truck is not moving takes away from mpg too.

Run it in 5th on Interstate. See if that helps. 33" tires an 4th might be fine.

Back in 70's when people started running 38" tires. They had same complaint. Answer was to change gearing.

We’ve been testing some of the single module stuff for Cummins in our 9L trucks with good results. Supposedly it won’t require service like the current DPF/DOC every 150-200k. The $4,000 bill hurts when you get it every third year on all trucks. I’d take a gas engine all day in my personal vehicle over new diesel stuff.

We’ve got a 2.7 f150 supercab shop truck that gets right at 18-20 mpg. Almost all highway...the truck is fast but it still can’t defy physics like some here think the ecoboost does.

OK, put on 60 miles of almost all four lane with only four stop lights...no hard take-offs, stayed between 60 and 70, apps mpg shows 17.1mpg.
truck has about 1100 miles on it. One of the sales guys at the dealership said his did the same until about 4-5,000 miles then it started getting about 22-23mpg. I think he was just stroking me so I wouldn't bad mouth the trucks economy.

I have 33s too and mine probably dropped about 2-3 MPG (depending on the type of gas I use) but it seems to mostly be from wind resistance on the highway. Now that I have a small lift with bigger tires, if there is a little bit of wind my MPG takes a hit. I average about 18 MPG a tank in Nebraska. Windy, mostly flat, but not high altitude.

Has anyone noticed improvement with the tailgate down? Twice I've gotten 1-2mpg more. Not sure if it's coincidence or real

Experimenting with tire inflation on the stock OR Wranglers. Spec 30psi cold gives ~18-19+ mpg at the end of the tank. Upping to 35psi cold gives 20+mpg (pressure rises to 38-39 when warmed up). Probably going to settle on 34psi cold on tarmac, drop to 32psi warm or 30psi cold on gravel and snow.

I know my old Volvo wagon had 2 tables of tire inflation numbers printed on the door jamb. 32/36 f/r for traction, 36/41 for economy.

Seems like the extra mileage in gas economy and tread life is worth it. I haven't chalk-tested the tires with or without load.

Most mileage is 3 person commute, mixed but hilly roads, with an empty bed. Weekend duty is 1 or 2 persons with 50-300lb in the bed, depending on dump, garden, moving, biking or camping duty.

Still no road trips but I have to go to ATL for business this week, so I'll see some highway mileage.

Lowest I’ve seen mixed driving (not towing) was around 16, highest was 23 on a road trip.

Towing a 20’ Alumaweld freedrifter with the bed loaded with camping gear (Leer canopy as well) from Seattle to Baker lake and back I got 14. No complaints here.

love those front/rear replacement bumpers, makes it really stand out from the norm.

on a side note my stats from oct-2015 (bought) to current. this is 95% city driving within a city of 50k and around 20 sq mile radius city. door to door for the wife is about 2-3 miles for work commute. mind you she generously uses the remote start and it gets to -10 to -25F easily during the winter months up here.
