I think I would rather have the fog lights on with my parking lights. Seems alot simpler and logical.

o.k.. I did it.. awesome!!! just to clarify some things for some non-tech/electrical ppl.. as it has been a long time since I played around with crimpers and wire.. I have been wanting to do this mod for quite some time.. needed to so something (mod wise) to keep me going for awhile..

I used a 18-22 gauge female crimper with 18 guage wire. The bending of the pin is straight forward. The inserting of the stripped wire into the the socket (pin 3), is literally that..

The fogs come on only when the parking or headlights come on.. if one of those are not on, then the fogs do not come on.. fogs turn off as normally when the ignition is turned off..

    took all of 5 minutes..

    THANKS!!!

Just completed this mod before work, 5mins top. I could not get the wire to insert around the tow relay blade, so I just threw it in the side of the opening and inserted the relay. work great.
+1 rep for simple mod which seems it should be factory.

What is the STOP LP CTRL Relay? I noticed yesterday that I didnt have that Relay, and figured it was probably only on 4WD's.

Park lamps must be on in order for the fogs to work, i wanted it this way so that i could never leave them on when i turned the truck off since it will kill the headlights when you open the driver door. Have you guys also noticed that the lights will work with your high beams on? hope so since that was my personal intent on doing the mod. Hope this has worked well for everyone feel free to ask any questions.

I just did the mod, I ran the wire into pin hole 2 on the Towing tail relay and I have fog lights anytime, the parking lights do not need to be on for the fogs to come on. I tested it with the brights and they worked as well. I do not know if using pin hole 2 instead of 3 made the difference.

That relay is for vehicles equipped with VSC safety feature.

If I read the wiring diagram correctly, you should be able to power your fogs with the ignition off too. This is because you utilized pin #2 instead of pin #3.

Have you tried to run your fogs with the ignition off?

Yes and the fog lights came on. I think I am going to switch to pin 3 so I will not have a opps I left my fog lights.

    Hey Lextech,

I did the mod today and everything works just the way I wanted. Fogs go on with parking lights, they stay on with the high beams and I only need to shut off the head lights and not worry about the fog light swtich. :)
To me the best thing is that I didn't need to splice any wires and if I ever have a problem I can reverse it in one minute before going to the dealer. Thank You.

Yes. Take pin #1 of the towing tail relay and provide +12V to it and it will always be activated.

    See this diagram for fuseblock

    This may also be helpful.

There are some legal ramifications to consider with the way this modification is being done. I don't know about your state laws but I can assure you that in California is not legal to drive around with the parking lights on without the headlights being on too.

I am not trying to discourage anyone, I am just stating what I know.

It's funny that you say that because I was going to ask you about your picture of your set up. It doesn't look like you had bent the tab on the fog relay.

I'm sorry, but I still fail to see the importance of this mod. You are having the fog lights come on with the parking light. What's so beneficial?

I myself just like having the fogs on without the headlights when it's foggy during the daytime (like today) but also lets you have the fogs on with the high beams = giving you more light. By having them switch on with the parking lights I only need to turn off the headlight switch and not have to worry about turning the fogs off independently. Thats why I wanted it but to each there own.

I find it helpful in heavy fog to run a lower light pattern and not having to run headlights with fogs. this is also helpful in heavy snow when u just want to see the road and not get all the reflection from the falling snow.
    personal preference.
fogs with HB, well that's just rude but I like the option;)
