Brake issue...booster, ABS, or other?

Hoping someone can point me in the right direction on a break issue with my truck.

Symptom: when I am coming to a compete stop and going under around 10mph I occasionally get a noise in the brakes that sounds like am pulling on a lever/groaning noise. At the same time the break will pedal will depress and I will have to step on in harder to regain breaking. This usually happens if I am turning or on uneven ground. My breaks are also pretty stiff usually even after flushing.

Thoughts: when I first felt it going up hill into an uneven driveway I thought maybe tire rub. But after a few more times I suspected there was an issues. The abs had been ‘fixed’ before I bought the truck which is why that is in contention, but I am leaning towards a booster issue? Have had the car checked at a good mechanic after i got it and it didn’t throw any codes.

Could be your pads are glazed over.

 

To rule out ABS, just pull the fuse and see if it still happens.

I know you haven't been too busy to check it out, because brakes matter. Right?

 

Hahah sorry. I pulled the 'secondary' ABS fuse (which also runs the cruise control and shift lock) and the problem went away. As I said this only happen when turning the wheel hard (mainly) and generally on uneven surfaces. Think going up into a uphill driveway with some uneven cocrete.

My truck is going into the shop this wednesday so I am going to ask them what they think could be wrong with the ABS... might end up going into the fuse box and pulling the big 60A fuse that only runs the ABS. Anyone have good instructions on getting to this fuse? I found out it is bolted in.
