2017 access cab idea and questions

New member here gentlemen, appreciate you taking the time to read my first thread.

I’ve been browsing the forums for months before joining taking a look at all the killer setups here and it’s making me even more anxious for the 17 access cab in white (or MGM) I’ll be getting here in Dec.

On Instagram of all places I actually came across the Tacoma below and it’s pretty indentical to what I had in mind only it’s a 2010. The owner may be a member here, I’m not sure, but if so - props sir! Anyways, although I don’t want to SAS swap if off the bat (can’t afford it right now), I do want to have a decent sized lift with the largest tire that she can fit without too much rubbing. BUT I also don’t want to put strain on the ifs and screw myself with issues so that’s why I’m here for some expert opinions.

In the pic he’s running 37x13.5 Toyo MT’s and I’m wondering if it’s possible with a 6” lift and after market bumper (providing some clearance) if I’d be able to fit these under a 2017?

Would literally be the same wheel/tire combo and similar aftermarket bumper/grill minus the SAS.

With a lot of trimming and a 6" lift maybe. Those Toyo's run large for a 37, and they are heavy as shit, so unless your going to regear, at about $2,000, I'd leave it stock till you save up to SAS.

6" lift, regear, wheels tires, money to fix all the little shit that goes wrong, your honestly at 5-8 thousand maybe more.

check out @Diablo169 his access cab is real nice 4 inch lift , gears plus, plus ,plus, sits real nice and looks mean , I also have an access cab but only the thin 33s and 3 inch low range offroad lift

 

Right on, I appreciate the honesty. Question: does having the SAS give more clearance than ifs? It doesn’t look like he has maybe more than 6” lifted as well and fits them okay so was curious how it’s done.

 

You need to do 37x12.50's on yours. Then we'll know if they fit or not.

 

Yes. Because it's all custom you can move the axle way forward. That's where you run into clearance issues - the rear wheel well.

 

With SAS you can go as high as the next limiting factor (Tires, Driveline, $$$).

 

I feel like doing sas for 37's on a brand new truck is a little much.

Why not just do a icon/king 2.5" kit and 35's? That looks just as good as this guys truck. And way cheaper.

 

Gotcha figured something had to be special about it in order to achieve that. Because all of the lifts I’ve seen elsewhere to fit 37s were 9”+ and to me that’s just ridiculous aha, way too high for my taste.

I'll just stick with 35s for now, see how I like it and then go from there years down the road when I have the income to do it the right way with bigger tires.

But like others have said OP, thats a lot of weight to have on wheel bearings etc. I wouldn't recommend 37s on anything but a SAS.
hell most jeeps that I know run 37s usually upgrade to 3/4 ton axles if not 1 ton.

 

Will 2.5" be enough on 35s? I've read a few threads of people having issues with 33's with 3" lifts. That's probably without the aftermarket bumper though.

 

Look for @90yota's build in here. Or mine in the early stages. We both had 35's. They rub a bit in extreme flex scenarios but most cases you are fine.

Assuming you've done the proper trimming of course.

I love white but every time I see this im now torn between white and mgm aha. stunning.

 

This was method 16x8 with 4.5 b.s. The tires were cooper mt's. 35x12.50.

 

I'm biased but MGM is better.
