I looked for a thread to add too but didn't notice one.

We have friends in the Sylacauga area and are seriously thinking of relocating to near by Birmingham or Montgomery (more up in the northern part of AL is where we are looking) but would like some input from people that are not only like minded but actually live in the area.

We are open to suggestions other than those two places as well.

I work in the telecom industry and should be able to find something just about anywhere but I'm hoping to do a transfer with the company I work with currently, we'll see.

I can't say much about northern Alabama, Auburn's nice, I've been here a little over two years and love the change from CA. I'll link this to the al thread.

90% of areas in our fine state are total shit holes. But that's just my opinion. There are many like it, many opposite. It all depends on what you are after in a locale to call home.

What are you hoping for? Let us know that and we can be of more help.

I'm just north of Sylacauga, in Chelsea. I enjoy it. Good schools and mostly affordable housing. @nagorb just attached this to the Alabama thread so you're about to get a lot more responses

Lots of urban sprawl in Birmingham, avoid it like the plague unless you like hour long drives to work.

Yet, and you weren't driving to work. Your PARENTS were driving to work after dropping you off at daycare, or school.
