Happy to have my 2018 ordered. Hopefully it wont have the same issues that made me dump my 2016. Held off two yrs to get another, hoping they've fixed them and hoping my 2016 was just a one of the first being built misbuilds, as I got one of the very first in our area and unfortunately it had some major issues.

Expecting far more out of this one.

I really hope not. I haven't seen any of the midsize trucks go this route yet. My dad's 2016 BMW X3 has the system and it was subtle but still annoying. The Jeep Grand Cherokee really felt like it was stalling and it was unnerving every time it engaged.

At least the BMW would remember the previous setting. The Jeep did not have a memory setting or a way to defeat the system that I could find. BMW stated in their documentation that it had an up sized battery along with an upgraded alternator and starter for the longevity of the system. In the grand scheme of things; gas is dirt cheap compared to a BMW starter and battery and I hated the feel when ever I borrowed dad's ride.

It will happen, you can thank the EPA for it. The Highlander has it starting in 2017 and its one of the dumbest things Ive seen for saving fuel. There are so many preconditions that have to be met before the system will even work. Most of the time the system isn't even activated so fuel savings are minimal. You would think great, I won't even know it's there. The problem is the system uses a different (more expensive) battery and a very expensive double solenoid starter.

If the 2016 was so bad for you why would take a chance and buy another Tacoma?

Being that most of the complained about issues are deemed as "normal" I
    highly doubt anything has changed.

That is a fair point, however, I am not sure it is fair to say things haven't changed at all. Obviously, with any vehicle redesign, the first year are going to have more glitches, issues, etc. I am sure Toyota have at least improved upon their manufacturing process, etc.

My point is: they've added accessories, the biggest complaint from most here is the
engine & tranny and that's not changing anytime soon. I was all about jumping to an 18
hoping the same as many but the few "real" issues I've had are resolved and rather than
start off with an unknown, not to mention the hit we'd take in the wallet I've decided to
keep "the devil I know". :)

I've been considering a new Tacoma for a while and just joined up to see if anyone has seen info on the SR 4cyl 5MT 4x4 coming back for 2018. I work for Toyota and can order a vehicle through our internal ordering system, but the information never seems as clear and accurate as TMS info. I don't see any 5MT options available for 2018 though... anyone spoken to a dealership about these?

1st built can have issues. Mine leaked water in cab from four areas. Ran behind dash and kept taking out electronics and soaking front and rear seats. Not getting moon roof this time and hoping since I'd never had this issue with a Toyota before that is what just a miss build. Happens again ill stay away. But one bad apple doesn't mean they all are. But also why i waited two years to get another.

Yeah, seriously, and also the 2018 Tacomas too since they probably won't have it yet.
Entune 3.0 sounds like it has a cellular radio though, right? Does Entune have cellular also?

SR has been discontinued and only the SR5 auto will be available with the 2.7.

I use cruise control all the time. Recently i had the Radar Cruise Control in crappy Prius rental, it was the most annoying thing ever. It starts going off about 400 meters from the car in front of you. Plus I want a Blue DBC Sport, perhaps I will go with a 17.

What do you mean it started going off? Toyota's adaptive cruise control when set, say 60 mph, maintains a distance between you and the car in front of you if the vehicle is going slower than your set speed. If the vehicle moves out of your way the vehicle will speed back up to your previous set speed (60 mph).
