With the tune, I actually do flash back to stock when I go in for service. I know, if they really look, they'd be able to tell that it was tuned but I don't give them any reason to look. My warranty is gone, but I don't want to deal with any hassle if something comes up in the future (I don't want a record of the truck being tuned). Probably being overly cautious, but oh well. I generally do most of my own work. If something breaks due to the tune, I wouldn't expect Ford to fix it anyways.

Morning all. Happy Monday...

You see a ton of that with the Ecoboosts. I see people on the forums and on the FB page asking how to reset so it doesn't look like there's been a tuner plugged in because they're taking their motor back for warranty work after it smoked a turbo or ate a cylinder because they've got their turbos pushing 10psi over the max rating everywhere they go.

 

Some of the tuning with the Ecoboosts is crazy. The amount of power they are pushing out of a relatively small engine, you have to expect something is going to go wrong. With the tuning I did on the 5.0, I don't expect there to be any issues. It's a naturally aspirated engine, only so much you can wring out of it. I did it more for the transmission mapping than anything.

 

Yeah with NA motors there's not a lot of HP/Torque to be gained. Not like you can somehow get it to suck more air. Some of the Ecoboost tunes really are insane. Something like 100HP and 150 ft/lbs of torque over stock, without changing any parts. Have to run 91/93 octane, though.

 

It's sort of funny, the 5.0 tuned basically puts it where the ecoboost is stock, at least that was the case with my 2013. The new 5.0 puts out more power and HP than mine did though. In 2013, the 5.0 also wasn't competing against the 2.7L ecoboost. I wonder what the sales numbers are like between the different engine options and, if that will change with the introduction of the diesel next year.

Tough to say. I hope they don't kill off the Coyote, it's a good motor and it'd good to keep something NA in the lineup for the old-school truck guys. Plus it sounds better, lol. I really like how my little 2.7 drives/tows, but it sounds terrible on startup and it doesn't make any sort of happy truck music while you're driving. The coolest thing it does is make turbo sounds while you're accelerating, but you've got to have the windows down to really hear it because the cab is so well sound insulated.

Sharp. That 38 gallon tank will be a heartbreaker if you ever let it get below the 1/2 mark, though.

Edit- I didn't realize that the 3.5 was getting the stop/start for '17 too. Thought it was just the 2.7 that had it. That'll take some getting used to, but I don't really even notice it now unless I'm in really heavy traffic.

Spent my whole weekend under trucks. Fluid Film sprays for 10 trucks on Saturday and reinstalling all my armor on Sunday. Mounted my driver side slider just a little off and it's banging against the bottom of the pinch weld over every bump, one more trip under the truck and I should be good for the winter.
