My mechanics coveralls took two trips through the laundry. I think I got the smell out.

We're actually going up Friday afternoon. I got a hotel for the night. But thanks for asking. I'm assuming you going up Saturday morning?

Make them throw in the trailer brake controller. It doesn't look like it has it and it's not included in the tow package for some stupid reason. Since you tow, you're going to want it. For bargaining purposes, you can buy the hardware yourself for under $200 and it takes them literally about 30 minutes to install and 5 minutes to active it. It shouldn't be a big deal for them at all and, honestly, the truck should come with it to begin with. Also, it says it has the 3:31 and 3:55 axle ratio in the description. Unless it has the 10 speed gear box, you'll want to make sure it doesn't have the 3:31 gears. That's too tall for towing if you have the 6 speed gear box, it's not an issue if it has the 10 speed.
Supposedly, they all have the start/stop now, even the 5.0. I'd deactivate it, that's just a stupid feature and a really good way to kill a starter in my opinion. I'd rather have the engine warm up, stay warm and run like it's supposed to.

I just filled up the 36 gallon tank yesterday from 1/4 full, and yeah, ouch.

Honestly, I wonder if the diesel option will kill one of the ecoboost engines off (I'd guess the 3.5L). I don't think they'll get rid of the V8, there's no way they'll be the only full size truck without a V8 option. Everyone says the ecoboost is the engine to get for towing. Tow tests with the Land Rover 3L diesel (the same engine the F150 is rumored to get) are going very well. It seems to be a very capable puller and gets great MPGs doing it. I'm really curious to see what that engine is all about once it's finally released.

If I wanted to weld these on (SOS bolt on sliders), rather than have them as bolt-on, would I just need to have the frame plates cut down into smaller pads at the end of each leg and have somebody weld them on?

If they can make it work, I'd be all about a diesel for my next rig. But honestly, my next truck purchase will likely be a 3/4 ton from out of state to put a V-plow on, so I'll probably go diesel for that.

Tuesday after 5:00 or so I'll be out in the garage putting a power steering pump in my nephew's @03limitedyota 1st gen. And maybe his cb time permitting. If you're in the area and want to stop in feel free.

That's pretty cool man! How long til the Russians can hack your Ferd? :spy: Asking for a friend....

And YEEEEEEEP!!! 11mpg. I can watch the needle move as I drive. Some has to do with the tune I have on it, some has to do with the computer readings being off from not having cats, and some has to do with the up-stream sensors being bad (at least one of them is).

I need to get this crap squared away.

Subaru has CID numbers, going back years and years. Essentially, your computer software has a specific version number, which Subaru keeps track of. If you have any recalls or bulletin ECU reprogramming done, that number is submitted to Subaru.

They also have a counter for mileage and key cycles. If we get a vehicle in with a rod knock, 45k on the clock, but only 4 key cycles and 20 miles, that's our red flag. On the other hand, if you have a severely dead battery, your key cycle/mileage gets reset in the ECU. Double edged sword.

With turbo vehicles, Subaru always asks us to pull the CID. We don't know what the "good" number is, they just tell us yes it's been tuned or if it's good.
That's the problem with the COBB tuners and stuff. Dyno tuning is ALWAYS the best way to go. Going with an off the shelf map, especially when you are talking about that much power, is stupid. You want to monitor all the conditions and hopefully see any issues before they cause damage.

    My STI requires 91/93 :notsure:

I thought all turbo motors required that to prevent detonation... Makes sense. More octane, less boom boom.
I love diesel in all shapes and sizes. I was really looking forward to a Tundra with that new 5.0 Cummins motor, but that still hasn't happened yet :(

If I was to get a full size diesel, Ford would have my vote. I've driven a few of the 2017 F350 6.7's and I'm in love...

Alright, gym rats, who wants to come get a workout and finish this for me?
I got this delivered on Saturday morning...

    And did this yesterday:

Cut it into 4 foot cordwood lengths and moved them down into the lower lot where I've got my log yard.

Still have this one to go, though. And hunting season starts on Saturday...And I'm stiff today. At a rough estimate I probably moved 8 tons of the 20 ton load yesterday.

    o_O

"My but your arse is grimy and black", said the short-ass kettle to the slightly taller pot...

Edit- I will admit, though, it would have been easier if I was 6'4 and built like Chris Evans.

My 2.7 is tuned from the factory for just regular 87 octane.

I'd be lying if I said I haven't priced out a 2500 Ram with the Cummins and stick shift... :anonymous: I love that Cummins engine, it's just a shame that it's wrapped in a Dodge wrapper. Half tons are getting so expensive, I'm fairly confident that my next truck with be a 3/4 ton. If I'm going to pay that much, I'm getting some additional capacity out of it.
The Ford ecoboost engines are all designed to be run on 87. None of them require 93. The SVT vehicles may be the exception to that, but I know none of the more base models require anything higher than 87.

Have you seen how well the 5.0 Cummins is doing in the Titan? I started looking into them and it seems to have some issues. Cold starts are a nightmare and there are some other gremlins lurking in that engine.

Check out the 3.0 Lion diesel in the Land Rover. That's likely the engine that the 2018 F150 will get.
