Yes but that's the thing, not that much more. They are just two differently designed vehicles. Not saying the Tacoma is garbage, just saying the 4Runner is in my opinion, far superior.

One other thing I'm not sure if anyone mentioned in here, the TRD OR has a hydraulic brake booster I believe in addition to or possibly to replace the typical vacuum actuated brake booster. Supposedly this makes bleeding brakes easier, as well as giving better pedal feel with the brakes. I can't confirm as I have a sport, but am looking into brake upgrades and came across that in my research

The Hydraulic brake booster is only available on the 4WD TRD OFF ROAD as that is how A-TRAC's nearly locker-like traction system can work. ALL other Tacomas use a vacuum brake booster, correct. The Off Road 4WD TRD cost goes into real traction systems, not bling.
    Spend your money wisely!

I test drove a TRD Off Road 4WD this past weekend and the brakes did feel a bit different from my Sport and the Limited I test drove. Felt a little firmer and made a slight "squish" sound when pressing the brake. Reminded me of my wife's previous 4Runner. It made that same noise and I'm assuming that has something to do with the hydraulic brake booster.

I do have a question for the guys in here that currently have Off Road models. Have you noticed any fading or anything with the black wheel flares? Do you do anything to maintain them? I'm considering moving up to a 4wd and thought about getting the Off Road. I see some 1st gens with the black flares that look almost new and others that are so faded they look almost white. I'm wondering how the black flares will hold up on the 3rd gen.

If I was unhappy, I would use the great resale value to get something I didn't complain about.

I paid roughly 3 grand more for my '16 trail premium 4runner. I wanted a new Tacoma but the 4runner won for my particular situation and needs. Also with the finance rates at the time the 4runner is costing me less over course of paying for it

I didn't say I disliked my truck, only that I thought the 4Runner was superior.

The Mom and Pop pizza place near my house makes some of the best pizza I've ever had. Doesn't mean I suddenly hate Pizza Hut. Get it?

Apples and oranges... an SUV (wagon) vs. a pickup truck. The only thing in common is they are Toyotas and may share some of the same features, right? Is an apple superior to an orange or just a different fruit?

Maybe the 4WD ability is better on one. If the truck bed is empty, then yes, The 4Runner will work better with more weight over the rear axle. Is that the truck's fault?

Looks like 10k to me, that's just about 1/3 the cost of the taco.

I paid $36 K for my 4Runner, $32 K for my Taco. Granted, 5 years had passed, but that's not a huge difference. A base SR Taco vs. a base SR5 4Runner is obviously much different.

Huh? I own both. Both are used for different purposes.

    Please try.

Taco 24.5 k, 4Runner 34.2k, difference of 9.7 grand. Actually, you are correct it's more than 1/3 of the taco price. It's 39% of the price of the taco.

My issue is, they are 2 different vehicles, I would sure hope the 4Runner is better. I think it is myself, but am not comparing it to the Taco.

I feel all trd models should come with 4x4 , locking rear , crawl for the money you spend

A base 4runner and a base Tacoma are definitely not equal to compare. Now compare a trd off road 4wd to each other. Same trim package the Tacoma is $36420 and the 4runner is $37000 and that's a 2018 4runner and a 2017 Tacoma. 4runner went up$200 for 2018, so the gap would be even less than what you see here. See?

Not trying to start a war but when you compare trim packages fair, there really isn't a difference in price between the two

I compared base model to base model of each. In my opinion, you can not compare the two, apples and oranges in my book. My post was in response to there isn't that much of a price difference, well 10k is a big difference in my book.
