No you can't. Only option would be after market, but I've never been confident in them cutting in an after market moon roof.

That is surprising to me. I am "very picky with sound" too, and IMO the JBL audio simply sounds better. It has better components, obviously, so this isn't a surprise. Driven both, and have listened to both, and there is no comparison. Of course there are even better 3rd party options available, but at least for me, I don't feel like taking off all my door panels on a brand new truck. Even with a "plug and play" system that is required. To each their own though. Those that are comfortable with that will end up with a nice sounding system, and can get the TRD Pro suspension upgrades, etc.

Side note, talking to my dealer sales guy this weekend; he was telling me all the sales guys there bought Pros, and they constantly complain about the stereo. Toyota should at least offer the option to get a JBL, moonroof, etc. Silly that they don't. If you like the OEM better, then that's an option too. I suppose, like anything, it's all in the eye of the beholder. [shrugs]

very true! doesn't really make sense that you can get these features in the OR or Sport
but the "premium taco", the Pro, doesn't get them.

Indeed! For me, my thought is I can always add excellent suspension components, a 2" lift (to match a Pro height), etc. I don't plan to lift the truck in any event, but there are a lot of great choices for doing so. But I would definitely not want to add an aftermarket moonroof. But, as you said, first world problems. It's great there are at least enough choices that most of us can get what we want in our rides. :)

Hence why I'm adding the oem after mkt. plug and play amp and speaker system.

That is why there are choices and different models. I prefer the pro series features to a factory stereo. However i agree the jbl and moon roof should at least be options on a pro, especially when they are priced so much higher.

You'll like your trd o/r and I'm glad to be getting a pro this time. Hopefully both of us wind up with great trucks!!

I do not anticipate any major Tacoma changes until the Ranger hits the street. Tacoma continues to sell well in the current form.

Oem (oem audio plus) is an after market plug and play system with amp, speakers, subwoofer, etc. This is what I am saying I think sounds better. Of course jbl is better than the stock system. It's an upgrade and should offer improvement.

Would the Ranger have any bearing on Toyota to do anything to its truck? I always feel like Toyota does its own thing, regardless of competition when it comes to its LC/Taco/Tundras.

Im sure the Ranger would put pressure on Toyota to make changes. It should be a major competitor to the tacoma. Personally i am excited to see the ranger raptor when it becomes available.

Recently I've been to Southern California near the border and I was honestly shocked how many new Rangers I've seen with Baja California plates. It's a good looking truck. A little bloated, but almost all midsize trucks are bloated.

The 2019 Ranger coming to the US market would hopefully be a push for Toyota to improve it's product. The Ranger Raptor is going to be amazing if the truck can remain narrow.

I'd love to buy a Tacoma... But I'm not opposed to buying the better truck. Even if it is a Ford.

I would not touch a Ford a 20' pole especially a brand new design. I hear of a lot of complaints on all 3 American manufacturers. When I bought my Tundra I got multiple quotes on GMs. GMs have some nice features that Tundras don't. In the end it came down to reliability and resale.

Resale on the current tacos is pretty bad IMO. Less than 2 years in and it's already
worth about 12k less than purchase price.

That is the case with most Taco buyers. Which is why the competition isn't what will get Toyota to change its Tacoma. Toyota will update/change Tacoma, when it wants to.

I have owned Land Cruisers new since FJ60 in the mid 80s. Toyota ran its own product cycle, don't care about the competition, because Toyota knows I am not going anywhere.

Look at the Tundra. Same thing. Competition has run away from it,a nd Toyota is still keeping it afloat as is.
