Tent and trailer look great. Location looks cold. I showed the picture to my wife and her very quick reply was no thanks.

You have a lift setup on your tent rack? Have any close ups?

After this recent trip out for RT17 I decided that I'm only going to run my tent on the roof if I'm doing a multi-day trail. When camping at the same place every night and doing difficult trails with lots of side hill, the tent looses it luster. Can I wheel with it up there without issues, yes. This is more of a want thing. I didn't mind it as much when it was pickup life but on the top of the 4runner, not so much.

I might look at building a trailer that could be drug through stuff while not hooked to the vehicle, not sure here yet. My ideal trailer would be shorter than the tent though.

Does anyone here get their truck under coated for winter? I’m not really familiar with the process or if it’s needed regularly/at all.

Just finished the annual rust removal and Fluid Film a couple of weeks ago.

There used to be a time when you didn't need to bother beyond hitting the car wash a few times a winter. That was back when Coloradans could drive on roads that weren't plowed to dry pavement at the mere hint of winter. Now CDOT puts down every chemical known to mankind and that includes salt brine, so cars are starting to rust. Not quite like the Midwest yet but give it time.

I could've told you that. I completely dig the WilderNest but it's not compatible with basecamp 'wheeling. Perfect for driving through from place to place. Ideal in fact. But stuff like Cruise Moab is a real pain in the ass.

Linear Actuators, 20" stroke length, check my FB I think I posted some photos and a video there.

Trailer is the only way to go, mine could make it down any trail that truck it is connected to could make it down.

While I am sure it can go a lot of places, I call bullshit on any trail.

Call bullshit all you want, any trail your truck can make it, I'm confident the trailer can get dragged right along.

Any trail is obviously a stretch but guys have gotten trailers through some decently gnarly stuff like the Rubicon, Kane Creek, Slickrock.

Following Youtube links can be a real time suck.

Yes... Wasn't as easy as just dragging it up.

And it's been torn to shit since then. :D

Took them a shit ton of hours as well.

On second thought, that might be one adventure I'd pass on photographing. o_O

Even if i hadn't gouged open the side of my truck, it's not one that I'd go out of my way to do again. It's got cool views and cool to have done it but it was a very involved 2 miles... In the exposed blistering hot sun.

I feel like I'm pretty ballsy, but there's no way I'd tow a trailer up that thing. I'd die for sure.

I have never had a need to this in Virginia. Do you think I should do it to my truck and Subaru before driving over to Denver in a few weeks, or do you think it can wait until I am all moved in?

Dunno about VA but as a kid in Missouri the rock salt loved the crappy finishes back in the 1970s. In the 20something years we've been here I've been absolutely obsessed with it. Rust never sleeps.

I'll say IMHO the need to do rust prevention is probably inversely proportional to the amount of driving in the mountains you do. You'll find that your vehicles get a hard glaze of brown ice on everything when they've sprayed and plowed up there and all the rock chips expose metal.
