I'm getting ready to acquire my new 2017 Tacoma TRD Sport.
I want to get a lift on it. My local 4-wheeler store recommended only a 2" lift on the front to level it out and holding off on a rear lift.

    Thoughts?

factory doesn't have that much rake...

so no adding 2" lift in the front will not work.

Is this a glam lift or a functional lift?

If functional, how do you know you need one when you haven't had the truck off road yet?

If you think you need big tires, you can get some pretty awesome tires in place with no lift at all. As long as you select the correct spec wheels and tires.

Either way, just call Marie @HeadStrong Off-Road, tell her what your goals are, buy what she recommends and install it yourself.

You are in the right place. Lots of good information here and occasional humor.

I would drive your new truck for a little while, and search around TW before modding.

Just take most things you read with a grain of salt- until you get the lay of the land.

    And welcome.

Just make sure you test drive it. My 2017 has given me quite a few problems and I just got it back after 2 months at the dealership for a recall. Read through the problems posted on the forums and try to rule them out before you take the truck.

except complaints are always exponential compared to pleasure.

You'll find 100s if not 1000s of threads complaining about said problems and minimal for guys happy with their trucks.
Not discrediting some members, yes some have had complete lemons. But the majority of owners are happy with theirs and not experiencing any problems.

Sure there are things to be aware of. But many would read this post as 'RUN DO NOT BUY THIS TRUCK' and many of the guys with issues make it sound like every 3rd gen is a piece of shit and no one should ever buy another toyota.

making a scene larger than a 50 car pile up over BLAH, BLAH or BLAH, is much more entertaining than a thread about how we actually love our trucks and are not nit picking pessimists....but what do i know, my truck is just fine, so i "can't relate"

I love my 2017! Don't know what all the fuss and discontent is all about (sell or trade yours if you hate it that much-haters)!

Don't go for the Baja front in the air lift... just my opinion.

Get a few quotes for different lift options installed locally and compare that to buying the kit yourself and setting up a weekend install with a couple buddies.

I'd say and more importantly read all the lift and different forums on here. This is by far the most friendly forum I have been on, with lots of humour to boot. You are in good hands here.

I do agree. Its just the culture we live in where we would rather complain than compliment something.
Just find these threads of new guys looking into getting one are always just turned into these 'my truck is a piece of shit so your truck will be a piece of shit too. don't buy one'

I love mine and I owned a '13 2nd gen and currently own two heavily modified toyota 4x4's a '81 and a '16. They've have all been great trucks .Bottom line is all vehicles are pieces. They all have there problems. I am a dealership collision tech with a paint background /restoration background. I've worked on many manufacturers cars from Hudson's ,hotrods, mercedes , Ferrari a gt40 even the new honda jet . They are all designed and assembled by humans . I can find a flaw in just about any car or truck including brand new still has the tag in the window vehicles . Sometimes you have to let go .

If there was a perfect vehicle there would only be one manufacturer.

You don't really need to lift it. Just get some nice OFF road, or all terrain tires. Upgrade your shocks front and rear.

You don't need change the way this truck was designed to run. Toyota trucks are quite good off road.

    Work in progress...
I say you, if you are going to buy it,drive the factory tires to their end. After that, you can get a lift new tires etc and feel like you are getting a new truck. Two new trucks for the price of three....

Lol and often the threads that are started specifically to express how happy someone is with their truck take a shit about 3 pages in. It feels like a Liberian bush war sometimes.
