    Yo TW,

I'm getting ready to travel down to La Paz to spectate and pit for the baja 1000 and I know It'd be a bad idea to only have one spare.

Luckily I had some help getting a 3D scan of my truck bed (2015 short bed with DMZ SUA Kit) so making a design in SolidWorks was a piece of cake. Toughest part was finding a layout I was happy with.

Although I already cut through my bed for mounting shocks I wasn't quite prepared to say good bye to my tailgate and sink the spares there like many prerunners, for now I think I've landed on a happy medium.

It's a complete bolt in install and removable if and when I choose to go full kill... Might just 4link it one day...

Here's some shots of the CAD, I am hopefully welding it together this weekend and can get some real pics soon.

Let me know what you think!

That's awesome!! If you're willing to share the 3D scan, I know other members on here would love it.

Thanks! Will post pics as soon as its welded.

I could help out with pulling some dimensions for Tacoma bolt locations etc, but I'm not at liberty to share the file.

    More pics...

Our tailgates are removable super easy, might be able to extend it out in free space for a little more room back there? Looks great the way you have it though!

    Yes
Don't forget that if you are adding 200lbs to the truck behind the axle so you might want to think about swapping your rear springs out for a heavier spring or you're going to riding very low in the back and hitting your bumps often.

I can try and hook it up with the mount rails location from the scan, I just have DMZ cage in there I don't want that out in cyber space - DM me to get me a reminder, I'll try and rip it when I get a chance.

I'm rocking a DMZ SUA kit with 2.5 triple bypasses and 2x4inch stroke King bumps, she loves the extra junk in the trunk ;)

Yessir, dirt bike ready. It also unbolts in literally 10 mins if you need to. I didn't get a chance to paint it before I went to the Baja mil so she's getting POR15 right now. Just need a wrench holder and an impact to pop out the 1/4-20's and nylock nuts, plus the 4 factory bed bolts it uses.

You're absolutely right and I went back and forth on that so many times. There's a few versions I designed without the tailgate but it just didn't look right without tieing it into some sort of tubed bumper. So without doing an integrated bumper keeping the tailgate was the way to go. Plus I kept the reverse cam with out having to remount it somewhere else.

The trouble is the short bed is so short, but I managed to get 2 full size spares, 2 5gallon jugs of water and 2 5gallon jugs of gas plus a tool box for my baja trip. Everything I needed with room for tents chairs and air mattresses. Got a little tight but we made it.

Tires stayed put even when mashing through silt beds and whoops, not a thing out of place. From Concept CAD to reality with minimal effort.

Damn dude this is really nice, Its incredibly satisfying seeing a drawing on a computer go from just that to reality. Nice looking truck... I've not done a lot of research on long travel but I was always put off by the thought that if you do LT the rear you have to hack the crap out of the bed, but your setup is actually really minimal what it does to the bed space. I could definitely live with it!

Do you think your setup would fit 2 35 inch spares. Thinking about building my own.
