Kermit has an aftermarket JVC AM/FM cassette player, installed by cutting a rectangular opening just below where the factory radio was originally located. As is common when installing an aftermarket stereo system in a pre-1980 bus, somebody at some point cut holes in the doors and installed Optimus 6x9 speakers. When my uncle bought Kermit, the driver's side speaker was missing. The remaining speaker sounded pretty good in my opinion, but with certain songs it sounded weird coming out of only one speaker. My uncle solved this problem by bringing his JBL Bluetooth pod along. I convinced my uncle to put a new speaker in it. We ended up going to Best Buy and he bought a set of two Pioneer 6x9 speakers. My uncle installed the speakers, and for a pretty basic system, consisting of an iPod played through a car kit adapter in an old tape deck, through 6x9 speakers...

    IT SOUNDED AMAZING!

On the day we installed the speakers:

Technically, yes. But it was broken, same as with every other Chevy I've owned/known.

In California that is more or less designated to Probation if they're on supervision or USM if they're not.

The Odyssey's are great rigs, growing up my parents almost exclusively bought Honda products. I've had an old Accord, my mom currently has a CRV, my dad an Acura TL. Our quads were always Hondas, same with the trolling motor on the boat. The old man swore by the brand, but all three of the sons now have Tacomas and have had numerous Toyota pickups, tacomas, and 4runners between us. I loved my old Jeep, but Toyota reliability is next to none.

    yep..
I'm wondering the same. Id rather not get their coating if offered. Plus it would be a nightmare for them because everything is saturated in fluid film.

Or at least of the police car world...

I'm not so sure I'd want one as a daily driver...

My friend has a 2005 Lincoln Town Car (Pretty much the same thing) which has positraction, and it sucks in the snow...

They also have the usual drawbacks of a typical full-size American sedan...

The only drawback IMO is winter abilities and the fact they are pretty slow. But I take a Vic anytime I can. The explore’s suck and are always breaking down

So you're not assigned a specific vehicle? You can just take whatever's on the lot? Like a "first come, first serve" kind of thing?

Even police cars are becoming too damn technologically advanced for their own good! By dilapidated, what do you mean? I'm hoping at least the A/C and heat work so you can patrol in comfort...

A Tale of Two Buses: Part 2!

"Sweet Pea" is my uncle's other VW Bus, a 1977 model, personified as a female. I did not have the opportunity to drive Sweet Pea. Sweet Pea is not just a VW Bus, but also a factory Westfalia camper. My uncle bought her because she was virtually identical to a 1978 Westfalia he owned in the 1980s. Believe it or not, the 1978 Westfalia had air-conditioning that, contrary to typical A/C in air-cooled vehicles, worked great. My uncle sold the 1978 because it regularly would not start and he could not figure out why. He traded it for a used 1987 Isuzu Trooper in 1989.

I forget exactly where my uncle bought Sweet Pea, but I know that unlike Kermit, she is not a California bus. Sweat Pea was originally fuel injected, but her engine has been replaced with a carbureted engine from an older bus. This would not be a big deal, at least not in most states. Unfortunately, my aunt and uncle live in [The People's Republic of] California, where all vehicles 1976 and newer must pass a smog test every two years. Pennsylvania, by comparison, allows you to register any vehicle 25 years old or older as an antique, completely exempting it from emissions testing and safety inspection. California does not have such a loophole. It would have taken a lot of work and money to make Sweat Pea minimally smog-compliant, and in California you can't register a vehicle that requires smog testing until it passes, so my uncle registered Sweat Pea at the home of his brother in Texas. Unlike California, Texas only requires emissions testing in certain areas, and does allow older vehicles to be registered as antiques, which completely exempts them from any kind of inspection. Don't you just love loopholes?

I see an aftermarket fan shroud and air cleaner. Looks like a Bosch 009 distributor as well. Is the engine still the stock 1600? Punching them to 1641cc was fairly easy and common upgrade back in the day

What year models are having the most issues with frame rust and how do you know if it eligible for undercoat?
