I have used Toyota oil 0W20 in my Camry except for the 3 times after I started doing my own oil changes 12700 miles 2012 14 or 15 changes. Still hard to see the oil on dipstick even after 5000 miles on it. I will go to Pennzoil ultra on mt 2017 Taco when the free service is gone. I will get my oil changed at 5000 first oil change at my first check up and then at 10000. same procedure I always do with my new Toyota's.

The average driver doesn't push their engine very hard and won't see much difference among the major brands of synthetic (Pennzoil, Castrol, Valvoline, Mobil 1, Quaker State, etc).
You might need all of the "extra protection" offered by the boutique $10/quart brands if you are 4-wheeling/mudding, hauling, towing, racing, or otherwise pushing the engine hard on a regular basis.
Even then, you would be fine using a major brand and changing it more often.

The simple answer: choose an oil that meets the specification in the owner's manual, change it on a regular schedule (normal service or severe service), and be done with it.

P.S. Mobil 1 can be had for $15 a jug during their annual rebate, it's quite the no-brainer :D

Castrol Titanium or Mobil 1 at 150 hours of operation on the taco.
I figure 10,000 miles at 55-70 mph is 150-170 hours of operation.
Whether I drive 15-20 mph on a trail for 2 hours and put 35-40 miles on the engine or 70 mph on highway for 2 hours for 140 miles, it still ran between 2500-4000 rpm's for 2 hours. So, I figure change it based on hours of operation. I use one of the trip calculators to keep track of hours of operation. Did my 2nd oil change based on that and I think it was 6 or 7 thousand miles?

I hear what you're saying about hours of operation. My dirt bike has an hour meter and my mechanic suggests I check/adjust the valve lash every 25 hours of operation.

But I have to say, 2 hours of trail work are very different than 2 hours of highway cruising. That's why the owner's manual has two service schedules.

I use Pennzoil Ultra Platinum or Amsoil Signature Series. Both with the OEM TRD oil filter.

I don't know enough about the oil industry to answer your question. Back when I was turning wrenches, Mobil 1 was considered the best but that was a few many too years ago. I am gonna use Mobil 1 since it is sold by the case at Costco. ...a complete side note here, I always wanted to buy one of those coffins they sell at Costco, burry it in the ground, dig it up couple weeks later, take it back making sure to wait in the long return line.

I'm exclusively a Mobil-1 user for the past 20 years. Either from either Costco or Walmart, whoever is selling for cheaper. Although it sucks now because I need 5-30, 5-20 and 0-20. I remember when it used to be simpler.

I don't know if these guys don't trust the dealer or they didn't offer but I got 3 years of maintenance with my truck.

I use toyota branded oil. I changed oil on my wifes 17 sienna last night with mere 982 on odo. While I was expecting some break in metal shear, I didn’t expect this much, so I’d say as far as oil changes I’d do em early and often just to wash the junk out

I use a generic brand at OilMart here in Wpg and Toyota filter.

I think of it as a 2000$ rifle isn’t going to make a good shot, the hunter makes a good shot
