Ok, I might just get something like the cot as a temporary fix for now till I can find a more road trip able solution.

The best part is they aren’t too expensive for what they are either. I was in go plant yesterday and found some as low as $800 that were in perfect shape for what they are.

Or you could make something out of PVC and a tarp.

Drop the tailgate and use an air mattress or memory foam roll. Being 6' 2 is hard to accomplish in a DCSB but if you drop the tailgate you get an added 12 inches on the 60 in bed. I wouldn't recommend sleeping under tonneau but it is doable in bad weather. Like mentioned you could build a platform or sleep in ground tent, hammock, cot tent etc. Shells can be found pretty cheap on craigslist etc but still you are quite tall to get comfortable in the short bed.

That thing is awesome! What truck did you get the bed from?

Yeah I think that I have decided that some kind of trailer is going to work the best to build this out of. I might use and old military cargo trailer but I’m still undecided.

I believe it was a Chevy in its past life, was already converted to a trailer when I bought it.

Ahh I see, it’s very different than anything I’ve see so far and an awesome idea!

Those are great for a project and found pretty cheap. Try to get the ones with 37 inch tires if using for off road. I would still think if you could get that and fix it up you could possibly get a bed rack and RTT combo for only a little more if you found some sales or second hand. You could also make your own bed rack or platform out of unistrut (literally two cross members) and then just get an RTT on sale or group buy. Most bed racks are under $600.
