It's not just Trump though, NPS budgets have gotten hacked several times in recent administrations. He's only the latest. But he's not a communist... if he were he'd raise funds, because they're everybody's parks and everybody should pay for them, not just the users. He's a capitalist pig. :D

I do think RMNP is on the low side. I thought it was more than $20 (like $35), but even so $70 is way too much. Now, I didn't look too closely but there are other things than price that were proposed. Like the cheapest goes up a lot, but it stops being day only and goes to the next level of seven day or whatever, which the price didn't go up as much on. It's been a while since I looked at the details though, and proposals may have changed. It's a very complicated issue though when you start looking at size of parks and visitor numbers - even if all fees were kept in the park system, some have to subsidize others that are just as important and beautiful but don't receive as many visitors.

Maybe if there were more details there? Like, paid for as in you worked for them while/to go, or it was work-study or something? And if you don't anymore... well lots of companies worry about paying to educate someone to fill a role they need and then the person jumps ship to somewhere else or in the government's case goes private. Or you know, they made that investment and then had to let the person go anyway because their budget doesn't allow for the personnel or position anymore... *shrug*

Work as a subcontractor through The University of Tennessee for a NPS research project, so they paid for my school and a stipend for the work.

Basically I went hiking every other week to collect some water samples in the smokies

I just hope the annual pass doesn't skyrocket. I've held one for a few years and wish they had a lifetime pass.

It isn't supposed to. I had one for several years, and usually do, but I didn't get one last year or this because of the 34 shutdown. Half my usage of it is winter, so it just didn't make sense. If they get done with 34 and it's open again next winter, I start getting them gain.
Yeah my father got his two years ago. Before that we'd usually have him use my old one (annual) while I got a new one for the next year since they were only out for two weeks.
