So I was helping a buddy with this 07 today. He thought his clutch was gone, but something else seems to be wrong. He was driving home and he felt a big bang and lost all power.

I climbed under his truck and this is what I saw on some kind of plastic inspection plate for the trans:

With the truck in 1st gear you can easily push it in reverse. When you push it forward it feels like the trans is grinding, but it still moves pretty easy
    .

    Thoughts?

Smoked the clutch disc right down to the metal backing plate, likely bad pressure plate and it's been slipping so bad it heated up the housing. It should have been VERY noticeable to pretty much anyone with just a bit of time in a manual transmission vehicle. Flywheel is roached also.

Shiiiiiiiit! That seems to have heated up rather hot.

Hopefully it is just the pressure plate, clutch, throw out bearing and fly wheel. I would also drain the tranny and refill it with fresh oil as it probably got quite hot also.

Thanks guys. I'll pass that along. I'm not sure if he noticed any other symptoms but I'll check.

Mine is a 2007 4 cyl. 4WD and has 137K on the original clutch. Doesn't slip at all. I was just out west for a long trip and it did fine in the mountains.

I talked to him today and he said that he did notice it slipping a lot. Oh well. It's his first stick.

I told him we could pull it apart and replace whatever was broken, but I'm pretty slow with projects. Being in college he just wants to get it done.

We're pretty close to mexico and I think he's just going to look for a used tranny and put a new clutch into that. I'll update this if anything interesting happens.
