I have since taken my HID setup out. Not selling it, may put back in future. But here were my reasons...

    1. Experienced slight bounce in passenger headlight, but only noticed it intermittently. But on rougher roads, very visible because it would oscillate up and down at a different rate than the truck was vibrating
    2. Noticed slight "melting" of inner headlight housing. Looks like glue was dripping. Not much, but wanted to see if it would continue with just halogens. If it does, I'll get them replaced under warranty
    3. Slightly worried about electrical quality of the entire kit. Given that it has its own setup and everything, I would just hate to have something go wrong electrically due to the headlights
    4. Don't think this is TRS's fault, but I hate that when low beams are off and you flash the high beams, low beams come on too. I feel this is not good for the kit.
    5. Also scared from reading that improper retrofit HIDs burn the reflector within the projector housing, lessening light output overtime.
    6. Interference with my CB/NOAA. Don't really care that much since I may just go VHF/UHF setup only.
    7. Lastly, I was not satisfied with my mounting setup for the ballasts, relay. They were painted steel(rust) and are fairly heavy, which I thought would put extra wear on the battery tie bolt.

Just waiting to see if the 2018s come with LEDs or something. A lot of my reasons are irrational, and I loved the light output, but just seeing if there are other, easier options

edit: pics are on my build page

Just an update, reinstalled them. The shaking bulb was put in drivers side and now I can hardly ever see any shaking

So swapping the bulbs seemed to fix your issues?

Also, does anyone know of any problems with state vehicle inspections with these plug and play kits. Will they automatically fail you if they see non oem parts?

Happy to report that the 35w 5500k kit had no bounce. Tight fit to get the bulbs in but i let them relax a bit and then re-tightened.

Only issue so far has been the DRLs not turning on until the HIDs have time to warm up. If i turn the low beams on and then cycle back to DRL they turn on but I cant get them to turn without doing that.

Anybody run into that same issue or know of a remedy?

I'm thinking about adding HIDs to my Taco. I'm just trying to figure out if installing the whole kit, ballast and all, is a one time thing, or will I have to do it all over again when the bulbs burn out. When the bulbs do burn out what do i need to replace them with, a whole new kit, or just new bulbs.

Once you install the kit, if a bulb goes out you just replace the bulb. I'd replace em in pairs though so the color and output match side to side.

    Agreed.

HID retrofitting is honesty very easy on these trucks. From start to finish I did mine in about 30 mins, and I'm very picky about hiding the excess wiring and making everything look factory/OEM

Once the HID kit is installed and if any of the parts (bulb, ballast and relay harness) fail then you would only need to replace the defective part.

Here is the H11 Xtreme HID kit you would need for your 2016 Tacoma. Take a look and we'll be happy to answer any further questions you may have :)

just popping in here to say I've been running the morimoto 5500k HIDs for around 9 months now. Light output is still great. Mine are definitely bouncing all over though on rough roads. It has progressively gotten worse. Now that it's darker earlier, I am driving at night more and I see it bouncing all the time. I should mention that I did get my kit AFTER the supposed gasket upgrade.

I haven't tried to reseat the bulbs or adjust them in any way.

Has there been any development on this? Another new gasket, or discovery that it isn't the bulb at all but defective housings by Toyota? Just hoping for some insight on this. I'd like to fix it if there's a fix for it.

Just to echo your experience, I also have the TRS kit with morimoto 5500k, installed for a month or two now. Pretty sure I got the new gaskets as they were real hard to rotate into place.
Great light output and build quality on the kit but like many I got the bounce only in the "hot spot" of the beam though. Noticeable on smooth roads with the occasional bump.

I decided to give the XenonDepot 4300k Philips bulbs a try this month and they actually have worse bounce lol! I get bounce in the "hot spot" of the beam and actually the whole light field. It's quite pronounced. They were considerably easier to rotate into place so I'm thinking swapping the oem or morimoto gaskets might help.

    So yea, I dunno.

If you get bored, and since you have both sets of bulbs, you should do an output side by side difference with one of each of those bulbs in each side.

Shouldn’t have inspection issues as long as they are aimed properly. My Tacoma has passed NC Inspection twice since I installed mine. My previous truck (Ford Ranger) had D2S retrofit and also passed inspection.

Sorry to hear that. It may have nothing to do with the HID bulbs at this point since you are having the same issue with two different brand bulbs. It could be headlight related and you are noticing this effect since the HID lights are brighter.

It sounds like too many people are having the same issue for it to be "headlight related" and not "HID light kit related". I want HIDs in my truck, but it doesn't sound like the plug and play kit is worth the risk of bouncing bulbs or melted headlight housings.

Well this just happened after about 16k miles. 55w 5500k kit. Fuse melted and I can't get the remnants out to replace. Any options here? @TRSAndrew

    They need thicker gourmet rings.
    Haven't found one yet.

Anyone used a different brand with no bounce?
